A non-experimental descriptive cross sectional research study was conducted at Sukantapally urban area, Burdwan, WB. Non-probability Convenience sampling technique used to select a sample of 56 chronic heart failure patients. Most (93%) reported two or more co-morbidities. The Association between Self Care Maintenance and CCI, Self efficacy and CCI have a statistical significant of p = 0.004 & p = 0.033 respectively. There was a significant correlation between the number of co-morbid conditions and self-care maintenance & the number of co-morbid conditions and self-efficacy. The higher number of co-morbid conditions among chronic heart failure patient, negatively impacts the patient's self-care behaviour and self-efficacy. Chronic heart failure with multiple co-morbidity diminishes the utilitarian capacities of people and influences self-care and self confidence. On the other hand, with increasing age, the number of co-morbid conditions among chronic heart failure patients increases significantly.

It is defined as contamination that begins 48 hours after charge to hospital. The commonest types are ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP), central lineassociated bloodstream infection (CLABSI), catheter-related urinary tract infection (CAUTI) and surgical site infection (SSI). The common pathogens include Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Candida, Escherichia coli and Klebsiella species. Antimicrobial resistance is increasing and has emerged from selective pressure from antibiotic use and transmission via health workers. Prevention of infection is fundamental and can be achieved through good antimicrobial use and infection control, including hand hygiene. Grouped, easy-to-follow best practice activities called 'Care bundles' have been developed to prevent VAP, CLABSI, CAUTI, and SSI. The study was conducted to assess the effectiveness of protocol on standard precaution for the prevention of infection in terms of practice among staff nurses working in Tertiary care hospital at Bhubaneswar. Aim of the study was to know the effectiveness of protocols in terms of gain in posttest level of practice scores. A preexperimental research design was used for the present study. The sample consisted of 60 staff nurses working in ICU who met the inclusion criteria. The sample was selected by Convenience sampling technique. The data were obtained by socio-demographic tool and observation checklist. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics and paired 't' test. The mean of postpractice level (X1= 23.28) was apparently higher than the mean of prepractice level (X 2 = 21.43). Paired 't' test was found to be highly significant. The significant difference between mean pre-and postpractice level was significant t = 6.728 at degrees of freedom 59 and the corresponding p value is 0.000(<0.05). Hence, it was concluded that protocols on standard precautions is effective in improving practices of staff nurses.

The data was analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Majority of obese persons had moderate knowledge (73.3%) and neutral attitude (82.2%) regarding risk factors of diabetes. There was a positive correlation (r=0.59) between the knowledge and attitude of obese persons; a statistically significant asso- ciation was found between level of knowledge and demographic variables such as (i) age, educational background and family income of the obese persons and (ii) grade of obesity and educational background of the obese persons. The study found that obese persons have moderate knowledge and neutral attitude regarding risk factors of diabetes. There is need for health education about risk factors of diabetes among obese persons through such means as a pamphlet.

Stretching exercises are the best measure to reduce or prevent cramps from occurring during haemodialysis among chronic renal failure patients. In this study to evaluate the effectiveness of intra dialytic stretching exercise on pain due to muscle cramps among haemodialysis patient, randomised controlled clinical trial design was adopted; 162 patients, undergoing dialysis at Pradyumna Bal Memorial Hospital, Bhubaneswar were selected by consecutive sampling technique and according to randomisation table, divided into (1) control group (n=81) receiving only standard institutional protocol with 0.9% normal saline, at the onset of muscle cramps, during haemodialysis and (2) experimental group (n=81) receiving passive intradialytic stretching exercises, at the onset of pain, during haemodialysis for 15 minutes, once per sitting and the same was repeated for 3 such sittings. Pre-test pain score and post-test pain score at the end of each sitting, for both the group was recorded. Statistical fi ndings (independent t-test) revealed that in day 3 post-test mean score of pain due to muscle cramp in experimental group and control group were 1.74 & 4.15 respectively with difference of pre-test and post-test score in experimental group and control group were 7.04 & 4.87 respectively which was found to be statistically signifi cant (p<0.05). After intra dialytic stretching exercise, a signifi cant level of reduction in pain due to muscle cramps was noticed among patients undergoing haemodialysis. Participants felt comfortable and also expressed high level of satisfaction towards administration of stretching exercise.

Conceptual framework used in this study was based on modified Daniel Stuffle Beam's CIPP evaluation model. Consecutive sampling technique was used to select 30 Type- II diabetes mellitus patients (15 patients each in experimental and control group). The study was conducted in medicine unit of Pradyumna Bal Memorial Hospital. In experimental group samples were subjected to Buerger Allen exercise whereas in control group no intervention was given. Ankle Brachial Index was used to assess the lower extremity perfusion. Statistical value revealed that on post-intervention the mean lower extremity perfusion in right leg in experimental group was 0.84 which is higher than the mean lower extremity perfusion of control group 0.65 with p value 0.000 which is extremely significant at p≤0.001 level of significance. The mean lower extremity perfusion in left leg in experimental group was 0.84 which is higher than the mean lower extremity perfusion of control group 0.67 with p value 0.000 which is extremely significant at p≤0.001 level of significance. The study concluded that Buerger Allen exercise is a non-invasive cost-effective method to improve the lower extremity perfusion.

Objective: To compare the effectiveness of foot massage & back massage among the hypertensive patient. Methodology: Evaluative and comparative research approach was adapted. Experimental pretest posttest control group design was used for this study. Simple random sampling technique was used for 70 hypertensive patients. The present study was conducted in Medicine Ward at PBM Hospital, Bhubaneswar. The Patient werediagnosedwithhypertentionattheageof40-60years selected as sample and grouped under 40 for experimental ( 20 in each : Group IA : Foot massage and Group IB : Back massage group), Group II: was control group( of 30 samples). Experimental group got the massage for 10 minutes. Tool used in this study one was demographic tool and another was blood pressure monitoring table. Results: The characteristics of the demographic variables described that, 52.85% was male patients, 32.85% resides in 61 - 70 yrs of age group; 20% female patients were unemployed and 17.14% male patients were self employed; 15.71% male patients were graduate and 21.42% of female patients were of primary education; 37.14% of male patients and 24.28 % of female patients were practicing exercise on daily basis; 38.57% of male and 17.14% of female patients were maintaining walking every day; 15.71% of female patients practicing exercise for up to 30 minutes; 27.14% of female patients sleep for less than 5 hrs; 28.57% of male patients were diagnosed with hypertension of 1 - 5 yrs. 35.71% of male and 30% of female patients are of non veg; 25.71% of male patients are of 156 - 165 cm and 30% of female patients are of 145 - 155 cm in height; 24.28% of male patients are of 71-80 kg and 25.71% of female patients are 61 -70kg in weight. Independent t test was used to see the effectiveness of both the massage therapy in reducing blood pressure. The t value of Group IA male in diastolic blood pressure is >0.16 and in systolic blood pressure is 2.779 comparing with the post test blood pressure level in control group. The t value of Group IA female in diastolic blood pressure is 6.85 and in systolic blood pressure is 2.39 comparing with the post test blood pressure level in control group. The t value of Group IB male in diastolic blood pressure is 8.0775 and in systolic blood pressure is 3.2032 comparing with the post test blood pressure level in control group. The t value of Group IB female in diastolic blood pressure is 6.4478 and in systolic blood pressure is 2.612 comparing with the post test blood pressure level in control group. Comparing the t value of both experimental group male post test diastolic and systolic blood pressure is 1.1043 and 0.5286 respectively and similarly for female is 0.7494 and 0.5830 which is not significant. The study Results shows that the Foot and Back massage is effective in reducing systolic and diastolic blood pressure but both have equal effect in reducing Blood pressure. Conclusion: The study concluded that the Foot and Back massage is equally effective in reducing blood pressure in male and female hypertensive patients. Back massage and Foot massage is widely practiced in health care sectors. It is a cost-effective method of reducing blood pressure. Nurse can easily learn this massage technique. It help to decrease blood pressure, length of hospital stay for patients with hypertension and reduces further complication related to hypertension.
