The success of the Korean government in addressing the issues of low productivity and unemployment in the SME sector stands as an exemplary case for many developing countries. The demand for improved human resources in the growing export-oriented and industrializing Korean economy was effectively achieved by government intervention that promoted an increased role of private players in training markets. These conducive and flexible reforms in the skills development policy, which were brought about in response to the international financial crisis and the changing market needs, caused a structural change in the existing traininglevy incentive system and created an institutional mechanism for SMEs to engage voluntarily and collectively in training their workers. Vertical Shaft Brick Kiln (VSBK) Technology, which is considered to be more cleaner, cheaper and ... more Vertical Shaft Brick Kiln (VSBK) Technology, which is considered to be more cleaner, cheaper and advanced version of fire brick making technology appropriate for small and medium brick entrepreneurs. Originally it is from China and later developed and adopted across various Asian countries like India, Vietnam, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Srilanka etc. In India Development Alternatives Group and TARA have developed the commercial version of VSBK after a long years of in-house R&D and pilot. During my association with TARA, Development Alternative Group in the year 2010, I was coordinating Green Technology Transfer to Bangladesh, an ESMAP Grant program of World Bank at Development Alternatives Group. India as an agrarian economy has large resource base and high concentration of farming communitie... more India as an agrarian economy has large resource base and high concentration of farming communities. The highly fragmented farming system in India is largely occupied by smallholders'. Smallholders form 78 percent (FAO, 2002) of the total farmers in India and contribute nearly 40 percent in the food grain production and other essential component of nation's daily dietary mix. In the global perspective, more than 2 billion of smallholders (a third of global population) manage approximately 500 million farms and provide over 80 percent of the food consumed in large parts of the developing worlds, particularly Southern Asia and sub-Saharan Africa. Thus smallholders role couldn't sidelined in the economic development process and very important target group for study as they could contribute potentially to food security and poverty reduction.
