This paper contributes to readers' empirical and practice insights on maritime labour, law and professional practices, including management issues and implications. In addition, professionals involved in maritime labour matters like maritime lawyers, mediators, Insurance professionals and Trade Unions. Practically, this paper is structured as a teaching case study. It provides case-related descriptions, industry practices, legislative frameworks, and fundamental teaching rights facilitating as a teaching material, especially for domains on labour tribunals, maritime law, and labour compensation in related human resource aspects. The following objectives were taken into consideration in this teaching case study paper: to follow and assess the gaps where legislation has to meet to receive compensation for seafarer families; to create awareness of the current situation regarding compensation; to determine the future recommendations to make Union work more strategic. This teaching case study would observe the gap between the legislation and what is occurring in the practical scenario after seafarer recruitment during compensation policies. To present this case study, several relevant institutions, programs and scientific research were considered to increase union efficiency. The main conclusion of this paper highlights the importance of the union and the other programs, policies and strategies that should be adopted to make awareness of these issues.

The shipping industry's most recent demands for tug performance have facilitated an array of new designs and technologies. Operational requirements for tugboats are constantly expanding, with high expectations for the reliability and efficiency of vessels. Authorities and offshore terminal operators also require increased availability of escort and offshore terminal tugs to assist ever larger ships, which frequently operate in severe weather conditions, during monsoon weather in Sri Lankan waters. The work that tugs and tow boats carry out is inherently risky. However, the risks can be managed and reduced with proper care and effective practice, the purpose of this research is to examine the present situation in the shipping industry with regard to these risks and their handling. The industry is investigated to determine the most critical risk factors seafarers (persons working onboard vessels) are facing today of vessels with propulsion plants less than 750Kw, and to understand the tools and strategies used in handling these risks. The study used an exploratory qualitative research methodology that relies on semi-structured interviews. The sample consists of 20 interviews covering seafarers of various ranks such as captains/chief engineers working on board tug boats. This study contributes to the literature on redefining and realigning risk management perceptions and strategies within the shipping industry. Finally, recommendations have been made for future understanding.

When selecting a third-party logistics provider, the required speed, cost-effectiveness, and trustworthiness are important factors taken intoconsideration. A systematic literature review of state-of-the- art 107 publications on the relevant topic was done from the years 2016- 2023 to identify conceptual and empirical studies. The research findings are synthesized into categories of uncertain events, supply chain practices, and outcomes. The impact of emerging technology on various supply chain operations is examined in this research. Because it describes the pillar components for any supply chain change, the suggested work is valuable for both academics and practitioners. Practitioners can benefit from the knowledge of interventions and mechanisms to improvetheir supply chain performance. The scrutinized observation identifies several knowledge gaps where strategic use of 3PLs in the industry could be optimized and develops propositions for future research.
