자치

자치(自治)는 자신이나 자신들에 관한 것을 스스로 책임지고 처리하는 것을 뜻한다. 지방 자치의 줄임말로도 쓰인다.

자치는 외부 권위의 간섭 없이 모든 필요한 규제적 기능을 수행하는 것이다. 가족 단위, 사회 집단, 유연단체, 법인, 동업 조합, 종교 등에 적용할 수 있다. 자치는 자주권, 독립, 자기조절, 주권 등 다양한 철학, 정치사회학적 개념과 밀접한 관련이 있다.
