This paper studies the semantics and distribution of Slovak verbs with the meaning of aquamotion ... more This paper studies the semantics and distribution of Slovak verbs with the meaning of aquamotion in contrast with other contemporary Slavic languages. As pointed out in previous studies in lexical typology, the lexicalization pattern of the semantic field of aquamotion differs in many languages of the world and there are subtle but significant differences even between closely-related languages such as Slavic. As far as the Slovak language is concerned, there still does not exist a detailed study of aquamotion verbs and their lexicalization patterns. This paper applies the theoretical framework of lexical typology and analyses the lexicaliza-tion patterns of the following three semantic zones: the semantic zone of swimming and flowing (plávať, plaviťsa), the semantic zone of liquid motion (tiecť, prúdiť, liaťsa), and the semantic zone of diving and immersing (ponáraťsa, potápaťsa, topiťsa). This paper aims to reveal which semantic parameters are relevant for the lexicalization of the semantic field in question, and to demonstrate the distribution of the Slovak verbs describing aquamotion. In addition to that, our analysis deals with some contrastive aspects to point out similarities and differences between Slovak and other Slavic languages such as Russian, Polish, Serbian and Vojvodina Ruthenian.

The aim of this paper is to provide a systematic description of the Ruthenian aqua motion verbs which have been less studied so far in Ruthenian linguistics by using the theoretical framework of the lexical typology which is gaining more importance in contemporary linguistic research. The first part of the paper gives a brief overview of the semantic field of aqua motion which can be divided into three main semantic zones: (1) semantic zone of motion and location in water, (2) semantic zone of flowing, (3) semantic zone of underwater motion. The second part of the paper provides a semantic analysis of the Ruthenian aqua motion verbs. The attention is paid to the usages of these lexical units in their primary meanings and their distribution in the semantic field of aqua motion. The third part of the paper examines a derivational system of the Ruthenian aqua motion verbs, focusing on the prefixation and semantic modification of the verbs in question. The conclusion of the paper presents the summarized results of our analysis provided in this paper and some characteristic features of the Ruthenian lexical system of the aqua motion verbs.

The contemporary Slavic languages possess a certain number of verbal lexes describing underwater motion which are inherited from the oldest stratum of the Common Slavic and Indo-European lexicon (e.g. *nerti, *grǫziti, *roniti, *topiti, *daviti). Their semantics and distribution, however, differ partially or sometimes even totally in every contemporary Slavic language due to their own historical development and semantic changes. The main purposes of this paper are to demonstrate initial parallels and divergences in the semantics of the underwater motion verbs in the contemporary Slavic languages including some literary microlanguages such as Upper and Lower Sorbian and Vojvodina Ruthenian, and to shed the light on the patterns of their semantic changes. Great attention will be paid not only to the etymology of the verbs in question, but also to their semantic behavior and function in each lexical system.

Although most of the lexical units from this semantic field are inherited from the Common Slavic language, their semantics differ partially or entirely in each modern Slavic language and their distribution is often quite different and complex. This paper deals with the semantics and distribution of the verba and nomina dicendi in Vojvodina Ruthenian, such as bešedovac 'to speak', hvaric 'to say', slovo 'word' etc. The Vojvodina Ruthenian speech-act verbs and nouns have not been subject to much research in the frameworks of Ruthenian and Slavic linguistics, thus our study presents a humble contribution to further studies of Vojvodina Ruthenian as it relates to Slavic linguistics. The first and second parts of the paper provide some initial data relating to the Slavic speech-act verbs and nouns which have been presented in previous studies and etymological dictionaries. The following part of the paper represents a semantic analysis of the Vojvodina Ruthenian speech-act verbs and nouns from the etymological and descriptive perspective. The conclusion presents the assumed results of the analysis provided in this paper, and points out some perspectives for the further studies of Ruthenian language as one of the Slavic micro-languages.

As shown in the previous lexico–typological studies, the semantic field of rotation is lexicalised by certain number of the verbs in many languages and the Serbian and Bulgarian languages have several verbs for expressing the meaning of rotation. However, this lexical class have been less studied in the framework of lexicology and, when it comes to Serbian and Bulgarian, there is still no contrastive analysis of the verbs in question. This paper aims to describe similarities and differences between the Serbian and Bulgarian lexical systems of the rotation verbs.

The aim of the paper is to systematically describe the lexical class in question and to reveal the relevant semantic factors which have influence to the collocation of these lexical units. Our analysis is based on the methods of corpus and field linguistics and also based on the cognitivesemantic and typological approach to the study of lexical meanings. This paper deals with not only the semantic organization of the primary meanings of the temperature adjectives, but also the classification of metaphorical usages of these adjectives. The first part of the paper provides the semantic analysis of the temperature adjectives in their primary, i.e. temperature meaning. Great attention is paid to the collocations of the adjectives in question to reveal their semantic features. The second of the paper deals with metaphorical usages of the temperature adjectives and shows some patterns of their semantic extension. The conclusion presents summarized results of the analysis provided in this paper.

The Vojvodina Ruthenian verbs in question have been studied neither in the framework of Ruthenian linguistics nor in the framework of lexical typology. The aims of this paper are to reveal the relevant semantic parameters for the Vojvodina Ruthenian lexical system of falling and to give some implications for further lexicological studies of Vojvodina Ruthenian verbs in general. The first part of the paper gives a brief definition of the semantic field of falling and introduces some relevant semantic parameters which are presented in the previous typological studies. The second part of the paper provides a semantic analysis of the Ruthenian verbs with the meaning of falling which is based on the data from various kinds of texts and the informant questionnaires. The third part of the paper analyses the semantic organisation of the Vojvodina Ruthenian lexical system and the distribution of the verbs of falling in Vojvodina Ruthenian. The conclusion presents some initial results of the research provided in this paper and deals with some perspectives of further studies.

The first part of the paper provides a semantic description of the basic meaning of Serbian ići and Russian idti, discussing the difference between these verbs in their practical usage. The following part of the paper examines the usage of these two verbs as a generalized verb. In the further part of the paper, we analyse the semantic features of the verbs of motion in various situations such as ‘Departure from Source’, ‘Location on Path’ and ‘Arrival at Goal’. The conclusion presents a summary of our findings and points out the similarities and differences between the Serbian and Russian verbs of motion.
