Son yillarda yasanan gelismeler teknolojinin dil ogrenme surecinde kullanilmasini kacinilmaz hale getirmistir. Buna bagli olarak mobil destekli dil ogrenimi son yillarda onem kazanmistir. Mobil destekli dil ogreniminin yani sira, dil ogrenme stillerinin dil ogrenme surecini ve mobil destekli dil ogrenimi uygulamalarinin kullanimini etkiledigi reddedilemez bir gercektir. Bahsedilen bu bilgiler isiginda tasarlanan bu calismanin amaci, ogrencilerin arastirmaci tarafindan gelistirilen mobil destekli bir kelime ogrenimi uygulamasinin (VocaStyle) ve dil ogrenme stillerinin ogrenme sureclerine etkisi ile ilgili goruslerini belirlemektir. Arastirma, nitel arastirma desenlerinden durum calismasi modelinde tasarlanmistir. Arastirma verileri yari yapilandirilmis gorusme formu ile toplanmistir. Arastirma kapsaminda calisma grubunu olusturan 10 katilimci ile gorusmeler yapilmistir. Bahsedilen 10 katilimci 5’i isitsel, 5’i gorsel ogreniciler olacak sekilde belirlenmistir. Veri analizi surecinde tematik icerik analizi yontemi kullanilmistir. Arastirma bulgulari, ogrencilerin mobil destekli kelime uygulamasini yararli, etkili ve guduleyici bulduklarini ortaya cikarmistir. Arastirma kapsaminda elde edilen baska bir bulgu ise ogrencilerin aciklayici eklere iliskin goruslerinin ogrenme stillerine gore degistigidir.

Abstract This study examines whether cultural familiarity has an influence on reading comprehension and whether using a set of reading activities compensate for the absence of cultural familiarity. 60 junior Turkish EFL university students participated to the study. A 2 × 2 true-experimental research design was used in the study. The results revealed that the nativized version of a short story from the target language culture contributes to comprehension of L2 readers’ significantly and the use of activities facilitated for better literal understanding of the original text. It also emphasizes a strong influence of cultural schema on comprehension.

The contemporary era brings technology into every part of our lives. As a result of technological improvements, education process has been affected and the use of technological devices is inevitable. Teaching language has also been affected by this movement. Thus, Mobile-Assisted Language Learning has gained importance through the recent years. Within light of these, the aim of this study is to understand the effect of annotation use on vocabulary recall and retention levels of English as a foreign language students. A software called Vocastyle was developed for this study. It included annotations that helped students to learn and remember new vocabulary items. Training of teachers in the Turkish education syste m began with the establishment of “Darülmuallimin-i Rüşdi”, 16th March, 1848 in İstanbul, which was regarded to be the first institution aiming to train teachers. Afterwards “D arülmuallimini Sıbyan” school which aimed to train teachers for elementary schools was establ i hed in 1868. Another school, “Darülmuallimat”, was also established in 1870 for the purpose of training teachers for elementary and secondary schools just for girls. La ter on a number of these schools were established in different parts of the Anatolia. Not only these schools but also diverse educational organizations began serving as teachers all around the country. Yet the the shortage in the number of teachers led to the emplo y ent of soldiers as a compensation (Akyüz, 1989). All these attempts were for meeting the needs of teachers in terms of quantity but the quality aspect of teaching was neglected.

The concept of teacher self-efficacy is a multifaceted construct which assumes a principal role in teachers’ personal judgements of their capabilities for accomplishing prescribed tasks. The traces of the development of the self-efficacy concept of teachers’ can be found in the pre-service education periods and how they evaluated the quality of that education. The present paper concentrates on examining the self-efficacy beliefs of pre-service teachers of English language teaching. The participants of the study were 34 pre-service teachers studying at the English Language Teaching Department of a large public university in Turkey. For data collection the long form version of ‚Teachers’ Sense of Efficacy Scale‛ developed by Tschannen-Moran & Woolfolk Hoy (2001) and focus group discussion were used.
