The implementation has been performed with 4 teachers and 59 students in 10th grade in an Anatolian High School in Trabzon. Many institutions and organizations in the world approach seriously to distance education besides traditional education. It is inevitable to use the distance education in teaching the problem solving skills in this different dimension of the education. In the studies in Turkey and abroad in the field of mathematics teaching, problem solving skills are generally stated not to be at the desired level and often expressed to have difficulty in teaching. For this reason, difficulties of the students in problem solving have initially been evaluated and the syst...

For this purpose, 5 gifted students were provided programming activities for ten weeks. Scratch was used in the programming training process. The qualitative data was collected by observation, interviews and written forms. The results showed that students' interests and needs should be taken into consideration in programming teaching plans. The duration of the lessons should be kept flexible and the programming activities should be project-based. The study revealed that game programming increases the attendance and motivation of the gifted students. In future research, programming instruction can be repeated by making necessary corrections and researched in different dimensions such as motivation, academic achievement and self-efficacy.

It is expressed in literature examination that the students have number of difficulties in learning concepts and the relationship between them, so difficulty in teaching mathematics is usually taken. Therefore, mathematics educators agree on the issue that students should develop problem-solving skills and this should be the primary purpose of education. In this study; students instead of memorizing the solutions with formulas are suggested to use a solution model based upon graphic structure in order to understand and achieve to format their meaningful learning. In the study, made on the movement problems, firstly the problems asked about the issue are classified. Then in the generated classes 250 motion problems in different kinds are analyzed with the solution model based upon graphic structure prepared.

A case study method was used in the classroom was the case. Data included students' diary, their responses on semi-structured interview forms, and semi-structured interviews with a selected sub-set of students. The collected data were analyzed by content analysis technique. It has been found that there are different factors that positively affect student satisfaction for "Conditional Structures", "Variables" and "Loops" courses that are processed according to YAP model. In addition, students' preferences and reasons for activity type differ. Study results show that training students with their preferred activity types increases their satisfaction and enable them to overcome associated difficulties more easily. It is concluded that beca...

The research problem of this study is "how are the tendencies of graduate theses including experimental study on programming instruction?" In this context, it focuses on the following sub-problems: Regarding the graduate theses with experimental study on programming instruction in Turkey; What is the distribution by year? What is the distribution by thesis type? What is the distribution by research method? What is the distribution by sample type? What is the distribution by data collection tool? What is the distribution by programming tool is used? What is the distribution by programming language is used? What is the distribution by duration of the experiment? This study is planned as qualitative research and it is based on document analysis as data collection method. The thesi...

We identified topics for programming and steps for teaching algorithmic thinking and then designed activities and lesson plans for these topics. We made revisions based on expert and teacher feedback and formative testing with students to ensure the lessons and activities are suitable for typical class periods and appropriate for students’ cognitive levels.

For access to the relevant literature; the databases were searched by using the following keywords: “computer”, “programming”, and “middle school” together, limiting the findings to the articles published after 2000. As a result, an upward tendency was noted in studies about the teaching of programming at secondary level considering years, most of which are comprised of empirical ones. Also, the existing studies were mostly carried out with 6th graders predominantly employing data collection tools of questionnaires/scales and achievement tests. As for programming tools, Scratch was seen to be the most commonly used one. Although quite a few articles are ...

Consequently, it is an aspect that needs to be focused on. The National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) standards also emphasize the priority of problem solving skills in terms of including them in the teaching of mathematics and in teaching mathematics with problem-solving approach. Therefore, in this study, instead of memorizing solutions with formulae, it is suggested that students use a solution model based upon a graphical structure. In this study related to movement problems, firstly the problems associated with the issue are classified. Then, in the resulting classes generated in this way, 250 movement problems are analyzed using the solution model based upon a prepared graphical structure. Because the structure can solve the problem using both forward and backward chaining methods, it provides different solutions to the problems, if any, that ...

With the COVID-19 pandemic, distance education has become an even more important trend all over the world and in Turkey. With the spread of e-learning and distance education applications, educational content and management of applications in electronic environment has become increasingly important. There are many different applications where activities can be managed together or separately in educational processes. In this study, the concepts of content management system (CMS), learning management system (LMS), and learning content management system (LCMS) are examined, and different aspects of each term are explained. It will contribute to the national literature. This chapter will examine the latest approaches in the use of learning management systems and virtual classroom software before pandemic, during pandemic, and after the pandemic.
