This paper informs about an international initiative of benchmarking introductory programming cou... more This paper informs about an international initiative of benchmarking introductory programming courses within various higher education institutions. It is based on comparisons of student performance in the final examinations of these courses through the use of a small set of identical programming questions (in a version for a specific programming language that is used in a given course). We report some preliminary results from our research within two universities in Slovakia. We have analyzed our data from three previous academic years within introductory programming courses taught in the C programming language.

Teaching through practical and creative teaching is essential at a university. The article deals ... more Teaching through practical and creative teaching is essential at a university. The article deals with the Project Based Learning (PBL) approach and its specific implementation in the projects focused on Internet of Things applications. PBL is realized through selected subjects according to the study focus. The PBL methodology and procedure are applied in all the projects. The practical outputs of the projects focusing on IoT are applications (hardware and software), searching for research answers (e.g. related to IoT smart homes), review studies, or web portal about IoT, Industry 4.0, Smart factory, etc. In the article, we publish an overview of selected final-year projects of our students, in which the form of project teaching was applied.

We describe a pilot research study within the project "Innovative methods in teaching Inform... more We describe a pilot research study within the project "Innovative methods in teaching Informatics in secondary education". We introduce some results of a survey regarding the content of the school subject Informatics in lower and upper secondary education in Slovakia. We plan to develop some new educational materials for further education of informatics teachers.

We focus on the first category of this contest called "Bobrík" which is designed for 3rd and 4th grade primary school pupils.
