Carolus Spurgeon (natus Charles Haddon Spurgeon Kelvedon in oppido Essexiae 9 Iunii 1834[1]; mortuus Mentoni in Alpibus maritimis 31 Ianuarii 1892) fuit praedicator baptisticus Anglicus, qui inter Christianos variarum sectarum momentum iam habet, inter quas princeps praedicatorum fuisse putatur. Traditionem reformatam magnopere movebat, quam ecclesiam per 1689 London Baptist Confession of Faith defendebat, propensitates liberales pragmaticasque contra dicens.

Spurgeon congregationem Novam Cappellam Viae Horti (deinde Tabernaculum Metropolitanum) Londinii triginta octo annos regebat.[2] Nonnullis controversiis cum Unione Baptistica Magna Britanniae intererat, et ad ultimum, sententiarum doctrinae causa, a secta baptistica discessit.[3] Anno 1867 ordinem beneficialem condidit, qui Spurgeonianus[4] hoc tempore appellatur et per totum mundum operatur. Etiam condidit institutionem quod Collegium Spurgeonianum ex eo post mortem appellari coepit.

Spurgeon multa operum genera produxit, inter quae homiliae, autobiographia, progymnasmata, libri de oratione, devotionalia, magazinae, poemata, hymni, et plures.[5][6] Scribae multas ex eius homiliis descripserunt, eo iam dicente, quae tum in multas linguas convertae sunt, eo iam vivo. Produxisse dicitur potentissimas cogitationis subtilis expositionisque exactae homilias. Spectatores in Tabernaculo Metropolito propter eius sollertias oratorias fascinati fuisse dicuntur, et multi Christiani eius scripta inter litteras devotionis maximi aestimant.[7] Spurgeon praeter homilias nonnullos hymnos populo gratos composuit, et novam carminum venerationis collectionem anno 1866 edidit, quam Our Own Hymn Book appellavit.
