These professionals are the most vulnerable to the increasingly common syndrome known as burnout. Burnout is a syndrome conceptualized as a result of chronic workplace stress that has not been successfully managed. Objective This study aims to develop a useful app providing burnout self-diagnosis and tracking of burnout through a simple, intuitive, and user-friendly interface. Methods We present the BurnOut app, an Android app developed using the Xamarin and MVVMCross platforms, which allows users to detect critical cases of psychological discomfort by implementing the Goldberg and Copenhagen Burnout Inventory tests. Results The BurnOut app is robust, user-friendly, and efficient. The good performance of the app was demonstrated by comparing its features with those of similar apps in the literature. Conclusions The BurnOut app is very useful for health specialists or users, in general, to detect burnout early ...

Many do not have the support of specialists, and often are apps for self-guidance. There is no record of any study looking at the apps' adherence to patient treatments from hospitals, and therefore it is not known for sure if they serve to increase the adherence of treatments. OBJECTIVE Analyzing and evaluating the adherence of using a mobile app (TControl) on a smoking cessation program. METHODS TControl, an app to follow up and assist smoke-free patients. 197 patients to measure the effectiveness of the app for decreasing the number of relapses were analysed. RESULTS Actually, the difference between those using TControl is the number of relapses (7.7%), which is much lower than among those not using it (33.9%), and which could retain considerably more patients on the program than the conventional treatment. CONCLUSIONS TControl increased adherence in a smoke-quitting program. However, no correlation between adherence and success was found.

Many people are aware of its benefits, and this trend is spreading to all sectors of the population. People’s efforts are directed towards controlling their diet, healthy activities and sports. Current mobile-app diet services can be improved by ensuring a user-friendly interface. OBJECTIVE The main objective of this work is to develop a useful, user-friendly interface, and a robust and efficient app that provides health tips and customized features. METHODS An Android and iOS cross-platform application was developed using the Xamarin and MvvmCross platforms. It generates customized daily menus using monitored user data, such as weight, the water drunk, age, body type and measurements. Additional features, such as cloud syncing, voice commands and custom user interface, were developed. RESULTS Robustness, usability (42-participant sample), and efficiency (6 different devices) were measured. The application is robust, user-friendly and efficient. Its features were adequate compared to similar apps in the literature. CONCLUSIONS The Fitness App is a very useful app for beginners and non-beginners in the fitness world. Overall, it is a good tool that helps people meet their fitness goals. CLINICALTRIAL

A single-arm proof-of-concept trial was conducted with a sample of 387 women aged 40–50 years residing in the city of Lleida (Spain). The study intervention consisted of breast cancer risk estimation, risk communication and screening recommendations, and a follow-up. A polygenic risk score with 83 single nucleotide polymorphisms was used to update the Breast Cancer Surveillance Consortium risk model and estimate the 5-year absolute risk of breast cancer. The women expressed a positive attitude towards varying the frequency of breast screening according to individual risk and, especially, more frequently inviting women at higher-than-average risk. A lower intensity screening for women at lower risk was not as welcome, although half of the participants would accept it. Knowledge of the benefits and harms of breast scre...

New scenarios, such as IoT, mobile cloud computing, mobile edge computing or fog computing, have emerged recently. The ability to design, model and simulate those infrastructures is critical to dimension them correctly. Queuing theory models provide a good approach to understanding how a given architecture would behave for a given set of parameters, thus helping to detect possible bottlenecks and performance issues in advance. This work presents a fog-computing modelling framework based on queuing theory. The proposed framework was used to simulate a given scenario allowing the possibility of adjusting the system by means of user-defined parameters. The results show that the proposed model is a good tool for designing optimal fog architectures regarding QoS requirements. It can also be used to fine-tune the desig...

These are mainly located only at hospitals, with all the disadvantages that this can entail. This limits their use and consequently, the supervision of patients. Research efforts focus on providing digital alternatives to spirometers. Although less accurate, the authors claim they are cheaper and usable by many more people worldwide at any given time and place. In order to further popularize the use of spirometers even more, we are interested in also providing user-friendly lung-capacity metrics instead of the traditional-spirometry ones. The main objective, which is also the main contribution of this research, is to obtain a person’s lung age by analyzing the properties of their exhalation by means of a machine-learning method. To perform this study, 188 samples of blowing sounds were used. These were taken from 91 males (48.4%) and 97 females (51.6%) aged between 17 and 67. A total of 42 spirome...

E-commerce sales of wine have increased considerably and online customer's satisfaction is influenced by quality and price. This paper presents a case study of the company “QuieroVinos, S.L.”, an online wine shop founded in 2015 that sells Spanish wines in two main marketplaces.Design/methodology/approachWith the final target of increasing the company profits it has been designed and developed an application to track the prices of competitors for a set of products. Biblio-MetReS is a data-mining tool that enables the reconstruction of molecular networks based on automated text-mining analysis of published scientific literature. Homol-MetReS allows functional (re)annotation of proteomes, to properly identify both the individual proteins involved in the processes of interest and their function. The main goal of this work was to identify the areas where the performance of the MetReS database performance could be improved and to test whether this improvement would scale to larger datasets and more complex types of analysis. The study was started with a relational database, MySQL, which is the current database server used by the applications. We also tested the performance of an alternative data-handling framework, Apache Hadoop. Hadoop is currently used for large-scale data processing. We found...
