The clinical presentation in total of 350 patients were characteristic of acute haemorrhagic conjunctivitis (AHC). Bacterial cultures from conjunctival swabs were sterile in 85 out of 105 (80%) patients, virus cultures in Vero and HeLa cells were negative in 30 patients. However, conjunctival scrapes from 20/30 (66.7%) patients showed specific cytoplasmic fluorescence with enterovirus 70 (EV 70) antiserum, suggesting EV 70 to be the etiologic agent of the epidemic.

It is fully structured to allow administration by lay interviewers and scoring of diagnoses by computer. A special Substance Abuse Module covers tobacco, alcohol, and other drug abuse in considerable detail, allowing the assessment of the quality and severity of dependence and its course. This article describes the design and development of the CIDI and the current field testing of a slightly reduced "core" version. The field test is being conducted in 19 centers around the world to assess the interviews' reliability and its acceptability to clinicians and the general populace in different cultures and to provide data on which to base revisions that may be found necessary. In addition, questions to assess International Classification of Diseases, ninth revision, and the revised DSM-III diagnoses are being written. If all goes well, the CIDI will allow investigators reliably to assess mental disorders according to the most widely accepted nomenclatures in many different populations and cultures.

Better understanding of attitudes of health care workers towards occupational safety and health (OSH) is important for planning. To assess the attitude of medical students towards OSH around the globe. A questionnaire assessing the attitude towards OSH was administered to medical and paramedical students of 21 Medical Universities across the globe. In the current study 1895 students, aged 18-36 years, from 17 countries were included. After having performed a principal components analysis, the associations of interest between the identified components and other socio demographic characteristics were assessed by multivariate linear regression. Principal component analysis revealed 3 components. Students from lower and lower-middle-income countries had a more positive attitude towards OSH, but the importance of OSH was still rated higher by students from upper-income countries. Although students from Asian and...
Introduction: Violence has far reaching effects on behavioral and psychological aspects of youth ... more Introduction: Violence has far reaching effects on behavioral and psychological aspects of youth in addition to the resultant death and injury. Life skills are abilities for adaptive and positive behavior that enable individuals to deal effectively with the demands and the      chalÂlenges of everyday life, in this case, violence. Objective: Effect of school based universal life skills training program on interpersonal     viÂolence among adolescents is intended to be assessed. Results of the pilot test are presented. Method: Process evaluation to assess the success of implementation of life- skills education program was conducted from April to July 2013. Change in violence related behavior was measured using pre- tested, semi- structured, self- administered questionnaire. User views were collected from teachers and students using interviews and a feedback questionnaire. Results: The total of 22 participants (14 boys, 8 girls) filled the baseline information. 17 out of these attended the four weekly life skills sessions over a month and also completed the post intervention violence assessment questionnaire. Mean age of the participants was 13.27 + 0.70 years and all the participants were Muslims as the school selected for pilot testing was a minority status Government recognized school. The program was successfully implemented and is to be followed up for 6 months. The mean attendance of the sessions was 25.75students and 45% participants completed homework assignments on an average. User feedback got 4.49 point average over four sessions on a five point Likert scale for achieving the objectives. Qualitative research as collected from 10 students and 5 teachers indicated convincing     appreciation of the service. The intervention didn’t bring significant change on violent      behavior but a significant improvement in protective behavior (Life appreciation) was seen. Conclusion: Universal School based Life skills Education is helpful in improving positive skills (particularly ‘life appreciation’) that protect from violence like behavior. The program suggests that action towards violence prevention is acceptable by the school authorities, teachers and students; the demand is felt for such intervention to curb youth violence. The non- randomized controlled intervention study should be carried out to find out the            effectiveness of the program.
