Pansy Duncan
I am a Senior Lecturer in the School of English and Media Studies at Massey University. I work at the intersection of media aesthetics, media history and eco-materialist media studies, with an emphasis on early cinema. My articles on media affect and aesthetics have been published in a number of venues, including Screen, PMLA, Film Quarterly, Textual Practice and Cultural Critique, and my book, The Emotional Life of Postmodern Film, appeared with Routledge in 2016.
My current book project, A Natural History of Film Form, advances a counter-history of cinematic form, showing how the raw materials of film stock—cellulose, silver and gelatin—informed the emergence and evolution of popular Euro-American film aesthetics.
