A purple 3D printed octopus with each tentacle ending in a hand that is flipping you off. Plus 2 dinosaurs with a dildo replacing the head & neck. One “dinosaur” has dragon wings which makes me suspicious of the dinosaur designation.

"Erwin Wurm (b. 1954, Bruck an der Mur, Styria, Austria) created Hot Dog Bus by transforming a vintage Volkswagen Microbus into an overstuffed, bright yellow food truck that serves free hot dogs to parkgoers. This welcoming artwork is intended to be generous and democratic – hot dogs were popularized in the U.S. by immigrants at the turn of the 20th century. The familiar sausage hints at the gastronomic connection between New York City’s most iconic street food and Wurm’s Austrian homeland."

Tree
Jane Hirshfield
It is foolish
to let a young redwood
grow next to a house.
Even in this
one lifetime,
you will have to choose.
That great calm being,
this clutter of soup pots and books—
Already the first branch-tips brush at the window.
Softly, calmly, immensity taps at your life.

Attending my first poetry book club next month, reading Ada Limon’s “the hurtful kind.” Should be available from the library early next week. I’m looking forward to it

Nameplate from a water heater indicating it was installed in 1989
Bought my house in 1995ish. Replaced the heat-pump next to the water heater twice. Has been in the back of my mind to replace the water heater too, but now I have wet floors and no hot water.
Argh. Much sympathy from here, where our entire 2nd floor is stalled mid-remodel because the engineer discovered the framing on B and 1 weren't near as beefy as he assumed.

viewpoint of legs and feet in boots and a cocktail in a whiskey glass, both resting in a snowbank with woods in the background
It's been an awful day here at williwaw work HQ but wonderfully it's a blue bird day outside: it's 50 degrees outside for the 1st time; I have the power to knock off early; and I have a great Japanese gin to make myself a royal iced tea with lavender honey along with a great side table (snow) with which to keep it cold. Also the grosbeaks and finches are back, the red winged black birds are having a great time at the bird feeder as well as singing their hearts out, and the chipmunks have finally emerged & are scampering around!
Hooray for nice days!
update: just saw a cassin's finch! spring may actually be here at last!

Sorry it was a dumpster fire day,
Thankful your silver linings are so thick!
Here’s to spring!

Here’s to spring!
Even on the worst days there’s not much better than feeling the first days of spring. Also, Japanese gin!
Yay for knocking off early and seeing birbs.
@wombatman70 @wjcstp @samh thank ye; it's hard to feel like your worries and your own self have any weight in the world whatsoever when red winged blackbirds are absolutely going to town trilling that distinctive conklarrrrrre-e-e-e!!! SO delightful
also yes for Japanese gin, I fear mayhap I'm becoming a snob

Was that just recently posted? Because it definitely gives me the impression he's trying to brace us for yet another hugely destructive decision or fuckup of some kind.
@mikenmar This was posted moments before the tariff rollback.

To help with my depression, I've been assigned a free use of the Tranquility app from a local mental health centre. Somehow, I don't think its answers are doing the right thing.
Worse still, if I chose the other answer, it pops up "incorrect: Correct!"
It's not my browser. It does this on chrome and firefox

There is the outside possibility of AI-generated questions and answers that were not checked over by a sensible human.
@GroggyGrognard I would upgrade that to "high probability"
This is truly dark UX.
Just awful.

cartoon drawing of a blue Bic ballpoint pen and a cassette tape grinning and smoking in bed after what one can only conclude was rousing good sex
Oh, only you can get me wound up like that.
@fnerg ++
something something B-side
I have a copy of Metallica "Kill 'Em All" on cassette where the tape has managed to get flipped over inside and now I can only listen to the album in reverse. It's pretty great.
Be kind. Rewind.
@samh hahaha.
@samh I am so intrigued by this.

The surface of the moon: a flat gray expanse under a black, starry sky. A white spotlight beams down from above, the source unseen. An astronaut leaps in the spotlight, performing what looks a little like a ballet move. The painting is signed "Chris Silverman".

Artist: You want me to paint what?
Creative Director: You know, like the kid is getting in trouble, but he can't control himself.
A: Ohhhh, so they just start hitting him?
CD: No, no, no. Not anymore, now there's a thing that he drinks constantly, like 5x a day, and it's got plenty of milk in it.
A: But he's lactose intolerant?
CD: Maybe, but he's definitely going to fart more either way. He can also put it in mayonnaise. Anyway, can you just make him look like he's totally fucked and his teacher loves complaining loudly about him farting?
A: [choking noise] Did you say mayonnaise? Why not just hit him?

"The Only Fart-Suppressing Food-Drink"? I'll need some convincing to believe that this isn't a modern parody.
who doesn’t love chocolate flavored mayonnaise?
@ardgedee alas: https://www.ebay.com/itm...
what's also amazing is that now people won't even read news articles this length, let alone an ad

A large mural on a brick wall, painted in a folk-art style, featuring a country singer in a cowboy hat (Unidentified) an early 60's Chevrolet with two women and a man leaning against it (unidentified) and a Texas flage on which the Lone Star has been replaced by the Armadillo World Headquarters logo, originally drawn by Micael Priest, I think. These is a partly cloudy sky in the background, and some low mountains depicted in the distance. In front of the mural is some wooden scaffolding and an electric meter pole that has disconnected wires dangling from in. There is a muddy puddle in front of the mural.
I have been scanning literally 3000 slides for an old friend who is now in memory care, for the last 1.5 years... it's mostly caving or caving-related stuff, but he took the occasional random photo of stuff he just saw. The was most likely taken after the 'Dillo closed, but before it was torn down, so early 81? There was no date on the slide.
This was a time of great sadness.

Wow, a massive task! Are you storing them on something like Flickr?
I can't get the org that owns them to decide what to do with them. I occasionally post a few to Facebook, but I'm getting impatient. They have a board meeting in May, at which I think I am going to appoint myself "Chair of the ad-hoc digital Image Acquisition and Preservation Committee."
There are four other cavers who have passed on in the last couple years and left multiple thousands of slides to the TSS as well & I'm the only person who has taken the slightest interest in them, besides putting them on a shelf at the headquarters.
Some of this stuff is only of local interest, but NSS convention pics, his trips to Mexico etc. need to be forwarded to the National Speleological Society as well.

@devilsrancher well I hope you're successful, as someone who does a chunk of research for my job, I find old photos a huge resource and am a strong advocate for photos being uploaded to be publicly available. Most do not realise the treasure they have in their photo albums, collections. Please maintain the interest :)
