I am a Lecturer in Creative Writing at Manchester Metropolitan University. Much of my work is concerned with place and psychogeography (particularly the landscape of the Peak District). My first collection 'Division Street' (Chatto & Windus) was published in 2013 and my second collection 'No Map Could Show Them' (Chatto & Windus, 2016) looked at the history of women's mountaineering. My first novel 'Black Car Burning' is forthcoming from Chatto.
I'm a poet who is interested in whether poetry and neuroscience can have a useful conversation and what form such a dialogic relationship might take, focusing on the work of Paul Muldoon, John Burnside and Norman MacCaig - my PhD (completed at The University of Sheffield) contained qualitative interviews with a range of contemporary poets.
I blog about poetry, psychology and place writing here: https://helenmort.wordpress.com
