Completed a PhD from School of Chemistry, Monash University, Australia, studied for innovative technologies to produce metallurgical coke substitute from lignite. I have more than ten years’ experience in chemistry research/analytical chemistry/laboratory science includinga position in an Australian Government analytical laboratory (National Measurement Institute, NMI) for more than three years. In MSc studies, research was carried out to produce low cost phenolic resins and plastics. Quality journal papers have been published and a provisional patent has been filed in Australia.

Currently working in the School of Chemistry in Monash University as a research fellow, research to establish technologies that can manufacture carbon fibre from lignite. As a teaching associate for undergraduates, I teach in classroom environment, supervise and demonstrate chemistry practical classes in laboratories. I also work as a laboratory manager, to support in chemistry practical classes in the school.

Abstract The products obtained by carbonization of a mixture of hydrothermally dewatered acid was... more Abstract The products obtained by carbonization of a mixture of hydrothermally dewatered acid washed Victorian brown coal and coking coal tar pitch, which had been briquetted at 150 or 230 °C and air cured were shown to approach blast furnace (BF) coke in many of their properties. The samples had higher strength than BF coke and showed surface areas and reactivities much closer to those of a typical BF coke than products from non-hydrothermally dewatered Victorian brown coal prepared under similar conditions. The reactivity showed a good correlation with the relative amount of graphitic structure determined by Raman spectroscopy.

In this paper, the contamination level of fourteen elements (Al, Ca, Mg, V, Ti, Na, Mn, As, Br, L... more In this paper, the contamination level of fourteen elements (Al, Ca, Mg, V, Ti, Na, Mn, As, Br, La, Sm, Sc, U, Yb) from different soil samples of the nuclear reactor surrounding areas in Savar, Bangladesh was investigated with instrumental neutron activation analysis (INAA) method. Generally, neutron activation is most reliable tool for determining the concentration of the trace elements and heavy metals by measuring the gamma rays released while decaying of the radioisotopes created from the interaction of neutrons with atoms. In this study, the soil contamination level of all heavy metals and trace elements was compared to the range, mean, and median values of the World soil as well as with other studies. The concentration of K (1.65%), U (3.17 mg kg -1 ), Sm (6.10 mgkg -1 ) and Sc (10.53 mg kg -1 ) is relatively higher than that of the World mean value. Iron is usually produced from its ores using coke in a blast furnace (BF). Coke, a hard and macro... more Iron is usually produced from its ores using coke in a blast furnace (BF). Coke, a hard and macroporous carbon material, is produced from special coals (coking coals) and acts as fuel, smelting agent, and the permeable support for the charge to the BF. No material can completely replace coke in a BF. Coking coals are becoming harder (and more expensive) to obtain. Victorian brown coal (VBC) is accessible, cheap, with low mineral concentrations, which is favourable for iron production in a BF. However, as-mined, it does not form coke, but a char which is too reactive to be used in a BF. The objective of this project is to produce a substitute for BF coke from VBC by physical and chemical treatments and to investigate the use of cementing agents to reduce the reactivity and strengthen the product finally formed. : Green separation science involves extraction, pre-concentration and chromatographic analysis ai... more : Green separation science involves extraction, pre-concentration and chromatographic analysis aiming at minimizing environmental impact by reducing energy and reagent usage and reducing or eliminating waste generation. However, the enrichment of trace analytes and/or the analysis of complex matrices most frequently require several steps before analysis, such as extraction, pre-concentration, clean up and preparative chromatography. Thus, alternative and greener separation techniques and solvents are replacing classical methods to diminish the carbon footprint and increase sustainability. Moreover, many innovations are also emerging to curtail the environmental impact of samples analysis; such as micro or nano analytical platforms, sensor-based systems and direct injection to high resolution mass spectrometry. The current review provides an updated account of the green and sustainable separation science techniques. The current innovations on greener separations and their application in different fields of study are discussed.

The attempted method involves combining a coal-derived binder with the original brown coal or its commercial products, briquettes. Briquetting of these mixtures gave composites that were then carbonized to form coke-like materials. Products were characterized by bulk density, helium density, compressive strength, reactivity, surface area, scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction analysis. It was found that the products have sufficient compressive hardness to be used as coke but are still too reactive to be used in a blast furnace.
