Prof. of Biochemistry at the Max F. Andrea Barta did her PhD in Biochemistry at the University of Vienna, a Post-Doc at the University of California, San Francisco, and is Professor for Biochemistry at the Max F. Perutz Laboratories, a joint venture of the Medical University of Vienna and University of Vienna. She was always fascinated of the versatility of RNA and was working on ribosomal peptide synthesis and the impact of alternative splicing on plant development and stress response. For many years she heads the focused PhD-program of the FWF, DK-RNA Biology and has organized many international meetings.
Andrea Barta is elected member (wM) of the Austrian Academy of Science, elected member of the European Molecular Biology Organisation (EMBO), and received several awards including, Sandoz Prize for Chemistry, UNESCO-L'Oreal.Special Honor Award for Woman in Science, Science Prize 2015, City of Vienna, Golden Medal for her merits to the County of Vienna, 2016. She is Deputy Chair of the Scientific Board of the Christian Doppler Society, Founding Member and Speaker of “Open Science” a scientific association for Science Communication that operates the Vienna Open Lab.
