Katherine Matilda Swinton (born 5 November 1960) ialah seorang pelakon dari Scotland, United Kingdom.
Biografi

[sunting | sunting sumber]Katherine Matilda Swinton lahir pada 5 November 1960 di London; beliau anak keempat dan satu-satunya anak perempuan[2] kelahiran Judith Balfour (née Killen; 1929–2012) - seorang anak jati Australia[3][4] - dan Sir John Swinton, seorang pegawai berpangkat mejar jeneral dalam Tentera Darat British.[5] Her paternal great-grandfather was a Scottish politician and herald, George Swinton, and her maternal great-great-grandfather was the Scottish botanist John Hutton Balfour.[6]
Pada tahun 1983, belia meneruskan pengajiannya dalam bidang sains politik dan masyarakat di New Hall, Universiti Cambridge. Di sinilah beliau mula terlibat dalam persembahan drama teater dianjurkan universiti tersebut;[7] termasuk sketsa-sketsa yang disutradarai Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie yang turut menceburi seni persembahan komedi ini di universiti ini.
Kerjaya lakonan
[sunting | sunting sumber]Swinton menyertai Royal Shakespeare Company pada tahun 1984, di mana beliau mula muncul dalam suatu pementasan Measure for Measure karya Shakespeare;[8] beliau juga turut terlibat kerap dalam Traverse Theatre di Edinburgh dua tahun kemudian.[9][10] Beliau mula muncul dalam televisyen dalam minisiri Zastrozzi: A Romance (1986), pada tahun sama juga beliau mula muncul dalam layar perak melalui filem Caravaggio arahan Derek Jarman.
