The Camerata Awards Concert Gala celebrates community musicians and patrons of the arts for their contributions to the University of Utah and the broader community. Each year, the School of Music honors two Camerata Award recipients at a private dinner and public concert.

Susan Duehlmeier

Susan Duehlmeier joined the University of Utah faculty in 1981, where she was appointed Piano Area Chair and launched a distinguished decades long career. Throughout her tenure at the U, Dr. Duehlmeier fostered and shaped the University of Utah Piano Area into the leading piano program in the State of Utah.

Kathie and Chuck Horman

Both alums of the University of Utah, Kathie and Chuck Horman have dedicated much of their lives to giving back to their alma mater. Kathie has served on the School of Music Advisory Board for over 20 years, and together, she and Chuck have supported multiple areas and initiatives in the School of Music to support students and student experiences.

Top Freshman Scholar Award

Allows the school to attract top incoming freshmen through a four-year scholarship to the top incoming freshman candidate selected annually by the faculty.

Advisory Board Scholarship Endowment

Attracts and retains music students in key performance areas in perpetuity. Established thanks to board member gifts, gala proceeds enable corpus growth, increasing award number and amounts.

Special Projects

Enhances student education and experiences by fulfilling student and faculty proposed projects. Past projects include creating a seminar space in the McKay Music Library, a student lounge remodel, and public space seating in areas throughout the building. 

Extraordinary Learning Opportunities Matching Funds

Prepares students for careers by letting them attend competitions, summer workshops, and conferences.

Priority Instrument Purchases

Enables the school to purchase uncommon or prohibitively expensive instruments for use by ensembles or musicians.
