It stems from God himself, who entered into a lasting covenant relationship with his people. You can read the theology of Marriage in the Catechism of the Catholic Church, #1601-1666. Here in parts, are brief points.

Such persons may carry out all the functions listed in no. 100 (with the exception of the distribution of Holy Communion) and nos. 187-190 and no. 193 of the General Instruction of the Roman Missal. 11. The Order for the Blessing of Altar Servers, Sacristans, Musicians, and Ushers (Book of Blessings, nos. 1847-1870) may be used before servers first begin to function in this ministry.

Today God speaks through us as we make his word incarnate for the assembly. Our job is to be God's voice and God's passion. We must love the word of God to be a minister of the word. Otherwise we won't be passionate and sets hearts on fire as Christ did when he proclaimed the Scriptures to the disciples on the way to Emmaus. We must be transparent, so that others see that saving love of God each time we proclaim his word. To proclaim the word of God with passion requires some time on our part. We must take time to study the Scriptures that we will be proclaiming. It is suggested that you contact the other scheduled reader to reflect and prayer over the scriptures what you will proclaim. You should discuss how the reading moved you and ways to make the reading more meaningful to the assembly. (This was recommended by many scholars on liturgy at his Workshop for Ministers of the Word.
