They raise some important methodological concerns on the conducting and reporting of our review which, if correct, could have biased the interpretation of our findings. As Cochrane authors, we adhere to the Cochrane Collaboration's core aim of trusted evidence, which requires investigators to aim for the highest methodological standards in conducting their reviews. However, comprehensive and economic diagnostic instruments on work limitations are missing. The present study describes development of short form questionnaires from 2 domains of the WCIB-Cardio item banks for the assessment of work capacity in cardiovascular rehabilitation patients. 283 cardiovascular rehabilitation patients were recruited from 14 German rehabilitation clinics. Based on the WCIB-Cardio with the domains of cognitive and physical work capacity, we developed a short form for both domains. Item selection criteria were content coverage, content appropriateness, internal consistency reliability (≥ 0.8). We used correlation of person location scores of the short forms with person location scores of the full item banks to examine the extent of measurement precision. For each domain of the WCIB-Cardio a short form was developed (cognitive work capacity - 14 items; physical work capacity 7 - i...

However, comprehensive and economic diagnostic instruments on work limitation are missing. The present study describes the calibration of an item bank for work capacity in cardiovascular rehabilitation patients. This study was based on an item pool (166 items) for assessing work capacity in orthopaedic rehabilitation patients. A total of 349 cardiovascular rehabilitation patients were recruited from 14 German rehabilitation inpatient centres. Exploratory factor analysis was used to determine underlying dimensions of work capacity. Rasch analysis was applied to test for fit of the model, item fit, unidimensionality, particularly local independence and differential item functioning using RUMM2030. Two independent factors (cognitive work capacity/physical work capacity) were found. Fitting of the data to the Rasch model was initially poor (significant item-trait interaction for both factors; p < 0.001). Af...

First of all, implementation strategies were acquired in trainings together with psychologists and physicians. The psycho-diagnostic programme consists of a screening instrument (PHQ-9) designed to permit time-effective detection of comorbid mental disorders. Besides evaluation of the training, the aim of the study was to analyze the extent to which it is possible to implement the routine gradual psycho-diagnostic programme in practice. Additionally, it was intended to identify beneficial and obstructive conditions for implementation. The pilot study was conducted in two orthopaedic and one cardiological rehabilitation centre. The training was evaluated directly after its completion using a questionnaire. Three months after its implementation, the introduction of the psycho-diagnostic programme...

The present epidemiological study investigates adjusted 4-week, 12-month, and lifetime prevalence rates of mental disorders in obese individuals compared with physically healthy probands and overweight individuals. Correlates of the associations are examined. Prevalence rates were calculated from two large epidemiological surveys from both the general population of Germany and inpatient centers. The surveys investigated subjects with obesity (n=910) and overweight (n=1550), as well as physically healthy probands (n=495). The prevalence rates were based on the Munich-composite international diagnostic interview, a standardized interview for the assessment of mental disorders. Correlates of mental disorders in obese individuals were assessed using self-report questionnaires and medical examinations. The adjusted odds ratios (OR) of obese inpatients and obese patients from the general population were ...

In a cross-sectional study 493 patients from different health care settings were interviewed about their pain during the previous 12-month and the currently strongest pain. Locations, frequency, intensity and duration of pain, restrictions in daily activities and utilization of therapies were assessed. For comparison data from the German federal health survey 1998 (n=6702) was used. The patients experienced pain more frequently and more severely than the general population. The largest difference was found in limitations of daily activities. Several qualitative similarities were observed, e.g. for the relative frequency of pain locations. Most patients reported multiple pain locations. The number of reported pain locations increased with intensity and duration of pain. Women reported more frequent and stronger pain than men, utilized more therapies and underw...
