NMR Applications in Battery Quality Control And Technology

Broadband benchtop NMR spectroscopy accelerates battery research and optimises quality control (QC) by identifying chemical species, concentrations, and physical properties of electrolytes. In formulation development, NMR diffusion and conductivity data characterise energy density together with charge/discharge performance. For QC, incoming chemicals purity is determined together with quantitative concentrations of solvents, additives, and trace impurities in final products. Root cause failure analysis is driven by NMR fingerprinting of electrolyte degradation products and their reaction mechanisms.

In addition, benchtop time domain NMR characterises separator porosity, anode slurry particle sizes and battery component materials properties.
