Clint Jeffery completed his bachelor's degree B.S. with folks like Notkin and Lazowska at Washington, and his master's and doctorate under Ralph Griswold at Arizona, finishing in 1993. His doctoral research developed a framework for program execution monitoring, with a substantial subcomponent examining very high level language support for graphics and program visualization. Jeffery then joined the faculty at UT San Antonio where his time was spent extending his research products to include monitoring C programs and Win32 graphics, and where he was fortunate to co-direct an NSF minority institution infrastructure project. In 1999, Jeffery joined the faculty at UNLV where he developed the Unicon programming language with support from the National Library of Medicine at NIH, a project which has continued to this day. In 2001, Jeffery joined the faculty at New Mexico State University where he had the opportunity to broaden his execution monitoring work into the field of automatic debugging and was fortunate to obtain NSF support for a project in the area of educational collaborative virtual environments.

Software development teams often require information and expert help that are not supported by co... more Software development teams often require information and expert help that are not supported by conventional development environments. This paper presents a social development environment called SCI (Social Collaborative IDE) that unifies the concepts of social network and collaborative development environment. SCI integrates presence and activity awareness information and collaborative program development tools. The activity awareness information provides inter-project and inter-session sharing and awareness of other developers' behavior. The collaboration tools provide a wide range of facilities for synchronous and asynchronous collaboration and information sharing between team members. SCI presents a framework that manages pending invitations of team members.

This paper presents UDB, a source-level debugger for the Unicon programming language with a novel architecture and capabilities. UDB combines classical debugging techniques such as those found in GDB with a growing set of automatic debugging extensions. UDB tests the hypotheses that a debugger built on top of a high-level framework enables better debugging capabilities as well as easier and more efficient extension than ordinary debuggers.

This paper presents UDB, an agent-oriented source-level debugger for the Unicon programming language with a novel architecture and capabilities. UDB combines classical debugging techniques such as those found in GDB with a growing set of extension agents. The paper tests three hypotheses: 1) a source-level debugger built on top of a monitoring framework can surpass ordinary debuggers with more debugging capabilities, 2) a debugger based on a high-level monitoring framework allows easier and more efficient agent-based extension, and 3) an agent-oriented debugger is easier to extend on the fly with new agents that utilize automatic debugging and dynamic analysis techniques.
