The protoporphyrin IX derivative is synthesised in two efficient steps by amidation of the two propylenic acid groups followed by a cross metathesis of the vinyl groups using Grubbs' second-generation catalyst. The self-assembly of the functionalised protoporphyrin is sensitive to solvent and
Self-assembled nanostructures of zwitterionic octaphosphanatoporphyrin 1, of either nanoparticles... more Self-assembled nanostructures of zwitterionic octaphosphanatoporphyrin 1, of either nanoparticles or nanorods, depending on small changes in the pH, is demonstrated based on the J-aggregates. Porphyrin 1 self-assembled into nanosphere aggregates with a diameter of about 70-80 nm in the pH range 5-7, and nanorod aggregates were observed at pH 8.5. Hydrogen bonding, π-π stacking and hydrophilic interactions play important roles in the formation of this nanostructure morphology. Nanostructures were characterized by UV/Vis absorbance, fluorescence, atomic force microscopy (AFM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). This interesting pH dependent self-assembly phenomenon could provide a basis for development of novel biomaterials.

The rod-like morphologies observed in the atomic force microscopy (AFM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) suggest that the lamellar phase self-organises into multilamellar vesicles. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) results indicate molecular arrangements resulting from longitudinal and transverse stacking of the porphyrin head groups in the lamellar structure. The typical nanostructures were derived from a high level of cooperativity between the porphyrin cores via π–σ interactions and supported by hydrogen bonding and van der Waals interactions. The nanostructures were characterised by means of UV–vis, fluorescence, AFM, TEM and XRD analysis. Our methodology confirms the potential of protoporphyrin IX derivatives in supramolecular chemistry.
An efficient and green procedure for the synthesis of 2, 4, 6-triaryl-1H-imidazole in polyethylen... more An efficient and green procedure for the synthesis of 2, 4, 6-triaryl-1H-imidazole in polyethylene glycol under microwave irradiation in excellent yield has been developed. Polyethylene glycol is non toxic, reusable, inexpensive and easily available. Multi substituted imidazole and derivatives are an important class of compounds in the field of pharmaceuticals. They exhibit a wide range of biological activities such as, inhibitors of p38 MAP Kinase [1], B-Raf kinase [2], anti-HIV [3], anticonvulsant [3], HIV-1 protease [4], calcium antagonist and inhibitors of thromboxane A2 synthesase [5] therapeutic agent [6], antihistaminic [7], tranquilizer [8], antimuscarinic [9], antiarthritic [10], cardiotonic [11], HMG CoA reductase(HMGR) [12], and antitumor agents [13]. In recent years substituted imidazoles are substantially used as Ionic liquids [14], a new approach to "green chemistry". Literature survey reveals that several methods have been developed for the synthesis of 2,4,...

We successfully constructed receptor for cation (Cu2+), anion (PO3-4) and neutral molecule tetra(ethylene glycol) using amide coupling with Kanamycin A, reduction to gold, and self-assembly experiment with receptors. Recognition of these ions with Kanamycin A were studied by transmission electron microscopy measurements. The assembled AuNPs could be reversed with water-soluble organic compounds such as EDTA and macrocyclic polyamine hexacyclen. This study would explain the recognition capability of Kanamycin A with ions in biological system.

The self-assembling behaviour of the amphiphile in varying concentration of CHCl3/MeOH was investigated, with well-defined nanostructures described as worm-like fibrils and particular aggregates being formed in 1:1 and 1:9 v/v of MeOH/CHCl3, respectively.
