Digitalne tiskarske matrice zaštićene u pouzdanom digitalnom repozitoriju nacionalne knjižnice donose sigurnost njihove održivosti nakladnicima, knjižničnim korisnicima omogućuju korištenje u skladu sa sporazumima s nakladnicima, a knjižnicama omogućuju racionalnije poslovanje - tiskane inačice građe u budućnosti neće trebati digitalizirati radi lakšeg pristupa. Summary Along with archiving of digital versions of newspapers and newspapers/news portals, national libraries are starting to archive digital print masters whether as part of business process related to legal deposit or based on voluntary deposit agreements where both publishers and libraries can find common ground. First of all, it is an up-to-date approach to long term preservation of national publishing output, which in the context of digital publishing is being produced in digital but issued in print and/or digital format. Digital print masters deposited in national library's repository ensure their sustainability for the publishers, enable library users to access them according to agreements made with publishers while providing more effective business for the library – there would be no need to digitise print versions of newspapers for easier access. The paper will represent elements of business process of long term preservation of digital print masters of newspapers by comparing projects and programmes undertaken by national libraries that have just begun or are currently implementing abovementioned process in cooperation with publishers, all with reference to situation in Croatia.

The National and University Library in Zagreb (Nacionalna i sveučilišna knjižnica u Zagrebu, NSK), as a memory institution responsible for collecting, cataloguing, archiving and providing access to all types of resources, recognized the significance of collecting and storing online content as part of the NSK's core activities. This is supported by positive legal environment since 1997 when Croatia passed the Law on libraries which subjected online publications to legal deposit. In 2004 NSK established the Croatian Web Archive (Hrvatski arhiv weba, HAW) in collaboration with the University Computing Centre (Srce) and developed a system for capturing and archiving Croatian web resources. From 2004 to 2010 only selective archiving of web resources was conducted according to pre-established selection criteria. Taking into account NSK's responsibility to preserve resources on Croatian social, scientific and cultural history, the importance of taking a snapshot of all publicly available resources under the national top level domain (.hr) was been recognized in 2011. Since then national domain harvestings have been conducted annually. In addition, in 2011 NSK started to run thematic harvestings of national importance. The paper will present the NSK's ten years' experience in managing web resources with the emphasis on implementation of the system for selective and domain harvesting as well as the challenges for providing access to archived resources. Also, the harvested data from 2004 to 2014 will be analysed. The findings will illustrate the variability of URLs, frequency of harvesting and types of content. The data from the last four .hr harvestings will also be presented.

National and University Library in Zagreb created service Croatian Web Archive to collect, preserve and provide access to web resources. The aim of this work is to examine lifecycle and variability of publications archived in Croatian Web Archive. The lifecycle of web resources, variability of the URL, titles and design, on the sample of 3072 archived publications, were examined. The method used for this research included extraction of data from the catalog records as well as browsing of archived instances.
The results show that the most common variable parameter refer to variability of design (36,45%), followed by instances of URL (12,66%) and the title (3,84%). The average lifecycle of resources archived in Croatian Web Archive is 5,51 year.

In the second part the survey sent to publishers has been analyzed. The aim of this survey is to determine how much archiving has influenced the value of their web publications, do they use archiving instances, did archiving effect the increase of web publication users, which were the sources of information of existing of the Digital Archive of Croatian Web Resources and whether they use the recommendation materials about making and improving their web pages.

In 1997, the amended Croatian Library Act included an important provision on legal deposit stating that deposit libraries were obliged to collect and preserve online publications along with other types of material, as legal deposit. The National and University Library in Zagreb established the Croatian Web Archive (HAW) in 2004, in collaboration with the University of Zagreb University Computing Centre (Srce), and developed a system for capturing and archiving Croatian web resources as part of the legal deposit requirement. The first web harvesting approach was selective, and from 2004 to 2010 only selective harvesting of web resources was conducted according to pre-established selection criteria. From identification to archived copy there are several steps and the workflow is based on the daily interaction between ILS and the archiving system. Access is open and all archived content is publicly available and can be searched and browsed via the HAW website. In order to enlarge and improve the national collection of archived resources, harvesting of the whole national domain (.hr) started in 2011 and continues annually using Heritrix. The workflow differs from the selective harvesting because the content is not bibliographically described and there is no interaction between ILS and the archiving system. In addition, in 2011 NSK started to run thematic harvestings of content of national importance. By now there are seven thematic collections available to researchers. By mixing and matching all three approaches and tools, NSK attempts to cover, to the greatest extent possible, the contemporary part of the cultural and scientific heritage. The Croatian Web Archive is a publicly available service with more than 25 TB of archived content and there is more to come.
