And if I am there it is thanks to many ‘special ’ people I was so lucky to meet on my way. I want to thank Professor Dino Borri, for giving me the space, the freedom and support to develop as a student and to become the researcher that I am now. It has always been very important for me to have his consideration, and I really hope he will appreciate this work. I am immensely grateful to Grazia Concilio, who has been a friend other than one of my supervisors. Many people say that we are very similar, that we have even the same voice and way to talk (!). Well, this doesn’t surprise me, because we have shared every singl...

Election debates are one of the highlights of election campaigns worldwide. They are also often criticised as appearing scripted, rehearsed, detached from much of the electorate, and at times too complex. Democratic Replay enhances videos of election debates with a collection of interactive tools aimed at providing a replay experience centred around citizens' needs. We present the system requirements, design and implementation, and report on an evaluation based on the ITV Leaders' Debate from the 2015 UK General Election campaign.

Many such metrics, alerts and visualizations were developed in the course of the project, but initial user testing has shown that users find it difficult to interpret abstract signals. Following that, we have both introduced new analytics that we felt could be more directly useful, and improved the representation of existing ones. We evaluated their usefulness in a smaller conversation and in experimental settings.

It describes the range of users from Brazil who accessed LiteMap, their interests and expectations for the tools, some issues they have reported when using it and how was solved. They key outcomes of this report are: ● Growing interest of LiteMap in the postgraduate courses ● Adoption of LiteMap by undergraduates led by a group of lecturers ● Adoption of LiteMap for professional development of teaching staff ● Adoption of Litemap by research communities and PhD students ● Key factors for engaging users with LiteMap from case studies reported by users ● Obstacles faced and recommendations

Capturing deliberation along collaborative decision-making processes is a challenging task. Several stakeholders deliberate in different moments, trying to accomplish different tasks, collaborating and communicating with different people and working in different environments. Knowledge derived from parallel processes, driven and ...

A tool, called the OER Evidence Hub, provides an infrastructure for the OER community to collect examples and data of OER effectiveness and use and then supports the community and others such as policy makers with a community generated knowledge base to help decision making. We describe the Evidence Hub concept and features, present figures on user engagement, and discuss the results of ...

We discuss the concept of deliberation in planning theory, and argue for a paradigm that puts deliberation at the centre of public participation to planning decision. We argue that in order to enable effective participation, the normally ephemeral delib-eration process needs to be captured and represented so that the information and knowledge gathered during deliberation is visible for all, can be ...

This SIG aims at providing a venue for continuous and constructive dialogue between social, political and cognitive sciences as well as computer science, HCI, and CSCW. Through an online community and a modified version of world cafe discussions, we contribute to the definition of the theoretical building blocks, the identification of a research agenda for the CHI community, and the network of individuals from academia, industry, and the public sector who share interests in different aspects of online deliberation.
