News evidences from Le Closeau at Rueil-Malmaison (Hauts-de-Seine) confirm and enrich the first patterns suggested for interpreting the rythm of this technological change. Three trends, probably successive, characterize this gradual contrast with the Magdalenian tradition. These trends precede a new transformation during the transition between Lateglacial and Holocene's times.

De l'ethnologie à la préhistoire : hommage à Alain Testart, 2018

Testart attempted to construct a dialogue with specialists of the Paleolithic period many times, only a few of them responded. In this paper, we try to continue these exchanges by responding to A. Testart's invitation: organize the few archeological observations that would potentially allow us to reconstruct social facts, with the objective to understand the evolution of societies in the very long term. We examine here the end of the Late Paleolithic in Western Europe, from the Magdalenian to the Mesolithic, a crucial time during which A. Testart suggested placing the shift from hunter-gatherers of type A (with lifelong obligations to the mother-in-law) to hunter-gatherers of type B (with temporary service to the father-in-law). In the present state of knowledge, it is difficult to fit the archeological data from this period with Testart's nonetheless attractive model. This pushes us to widen our geographical and chronological focus and look for other moments of technical—and thus maybe social—shift among prehistoric hunter-gatherers.
