PDBj omni-search functionality

The new PDBj omni-search functionality allows you to more quickly find the resource or service you're looking for. While you're typing, PDBj searches through several of our databases for matches regarding your query:

Currently, the omni-search bar in the header can search through the following data:

• PDBj services
• PDB IDs (current, future and obsolete entries)
• PDB keywords
• PDB authors
• PDB Chemie ligand IDs (comp_id)
• BIRD IDs
• Promode Elastic entry IDs
• PDBj help post titles (English & Japanese)
• PDB Molecule of the Month post titles (English & Japanese)
• EMDB IDs
• BMRB IDs
• Sequences*

* Note that when inputting sequences, only include the sequence itself, so no titles (like "> title" in the fasta format should not be included).
A link to our Sequence Navigator service will be shown in case no immediate hits in our databases (see above) have been found and the length of the query is more than ten characters. Hitting [ENTER] on the other hand will initiate a regular in-depth search in our databases (Mine PDB, info/help, Status and Chemie).

Usage

Clicking on one of the results given by the omni search bar will direct you to the associated page. When available, "Find all" will perform an in-depth search using the given query for the associated category (e.g. for "PDB keywords" above, a PDBj Mine keyword search will be performed). Hitting [ENTER] (or clicking on the search button to the right of the input field) will perform an in-depth search in the PDB data, PDBj website pages (such as help and news posts), unreleased entries (status search) and PDBj Chemie (ligand) data.

In case the system has found a perfect match to a PDBj service, PDB entry, unreleased PDB entry, PDBj Chemie entry, Promode-Elastic entry, help page entry or bmrb/emdb id, the system will jump directly to the corresponding page when the user hits [ENTER]. To indicate that the system has found a perfect match, a carriage return symbol (↵) is prepended to the result. Holding [SHIFT] and pressing [ENTER] will however do an in-depth search as described above.
