Set dtpwiki "Project_talk" and "Talk" for other relevant namespaces
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

Please set the "Project_talk" namespace name and the word "Talk" for all the other discussion namespaces in the Central Dusun Wikipedia, as follows:

  • Project_talk = Pibarasan Wikipedia
  • *_talk = Pibarasan *

These are from the original request at Meta and the wiki-creation task, T365220.

(Note that the "Project" namespace name can remain the default: "Wikipedia".)

Please ask if local community need any other changes to current fallback from Malaysian language listed in https://github.com/wikimedia/mediawiki/blob/master/languages/messages/MessagesMs.php

Please ask if local community need any other changes to current fallback from Malaysian language listed in https://github.com/wikimedia/mediawiki/blob/master/languages/messages/MessagesMs.php

So, I guess you're saying that Malay is the fallback language for Central Dusun (dtp), and so that's why, say, "Perbincangan" is currently being used on the wiki instead of the "Pibarasan" that they wanted. Are you asking them to provide the desired dtp equivalents for everything in there that they don't want to use the Malay words for? Shouldn't these terms (a lot of them, anyway) already be available from TranslateWiki? (IOW, why aren't a lot of these terms already in MessagesDtp.php? Isn't that the whole point of having TranslateWiki?)

For the record, I have been talking to dtp:User:Ultron90, but dtp:Special:ListUsers/sysop lists three admins there. There doesn't seem to be an active community portal / village pump, so I'm not sure how best to communicate to the community as a whole. (Seems like at this point, getting the consensus of the three admins should be sufficient.)

But they (/I, if I must continue to be a go-between) will need clarification on what you're actually asking for.

I am just asking if they require any additional changes, they can ask it now as https://github.com/wikimedia/mediawiki/blob/master/languages/messages/MessagesDtp.php is just fallback to Malaysian language messages , only asked if they require additional changes that can be done now only,

OK, but I still don't understand why MessagesDtp.php is only fallback to ms. Is this something that will get populated later?

It would be done intially per request of community, I guess initially it was suggested by community to set malaysian as fallback, but configuration can always be changed later

Apologies for the extremely long delay here. We really should have done better.

The TimedText and TimedText talk namespace names are currently not translatable at all for any language pending T315728. The rest will be done soon.

Change #1080081 had a related patch set uploaded (by Pppery; author: Pppery):

Change #1080083 had a related patch set uploaded (by Pppery; author: Pppery):

[mediawiki/extensions/Scribunto@master] Set namespaces for dtp

https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/1080083

A few questions:

  1. What should be the name of the "Special" namespace? In ms, it's "Khas". In translations into dtp, I see "suaikowokon" or "pinotontu".
  2. What should be the name of the "File" namespace? In ms, it's "Fail". In translations into dtp, I see "Pail", "Fail", and "Mongintong". I see that you have suggested "Pibarasan fail" for "File talk", so I guess that "File" alone should be "Fail", but if that's the case then it should be made consistent in the current translations.
  3. What should be the name of the "Template" namespace? In ms, it's "Templat". In translations into dtp, I see "Templat", "Tompilat", "Pomitanan", "Pongitanan", and "Pongomitan". I see that you have suggested "Pibarasan templat" for "Template talk", so I guess that "Template" alone should be "Template", but if that's the case then it should be made consistent in the current translations.
  4. What should be the name of the "Category" namespace? In ms, it's "Kategori". In translations into dtp, I see "Kategori", "Kalas", "Katogori", "Koinansar", "Tinansar", and "Pongomitan". I see that you have suggested "Pibarasan kategori" for "Category talk", so I guess that "Category" alone should be "Kategori", but if that's the case then it should be made consistent in the current translations.

[mediawiki/extensions/Scribunto@master] Set namespaces for dtp

https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/1080083

  1. Special/Khas - (Poimbida)
  2. File/fail - (Fail)
  3. Template/templat - (Templat)
  4. Category/kategori - (Kategori)
  5. Template talk - (Pibarasan templat)

We will update the words on Translatewiki soon

  1. Special/Khas - (Poimbida)

This one is a bit surprising. On translatewiki, it's "suaikowokon" or "pinotontu", and I can't find "Poimbida" anywhere. "Special" refers to "Special page". It's a namespace for special pages, which cannot be edited by users. They provide various services, such as display of information about the wiki, Recent Changes, Watchlist, Statistics, and special administration and editing interfaces such as Blocking, managing user rights, Translation, etc. If "Poimbida" is appropriate for this, then it's fine.

Poimbida is the standard word for Special. Those in translatewiki are not standard for the translation of Special. We will also update the word in translatewiki soon

Great, thank you for the confirmation. @Pppery, are you updating the patch?

Sure, I'll get to it sometime.

This should all be done, and will probably be deployed to dtp.wikipedia.org by October 25.
