Mike Rayner

Dr Mike Rayner is the course leader for the MSc Sports Management course at the University of Portsmouth. Mike joined the University of Portsmouth in 2008 after several years of working within the construction and Education industries as well as other sales orientated job roles. Mike is experienced in the subject areas of Sports Development, Human Resource Management, Sales Strategy and Business Administration. Within his current role Mike provides consultancy and business coaching for a range of different public and private sector organisations.Dr Mike Rayner’s scholarship examines the impact of sport governance, business, and human relations within the sports industry. His article in The International Journal of Sports Management, Recreation and Tourism has been widely published and discussed within the British Media. The Telegraph newspaper and BBC Radio 5 produced a series of articles and broadcast shows based on the data extracted from the paper. Furthermore, Dr Mike Rayner has recently published a book titled Rugby Union and Professionalisation: Elite Player Perspectives.
