Abstract Cockroaches cause allergic diseases and are closely linked with the development of asthma. Bla g 1 is one of the major allergen proteins produced by German cockroaches. It consists of tandem repeats of approxi-mately 100 amino acids. The aim of the present study was to identify linear IgE-binding epitopes of Bla g 1.02. RT-PCR was used to clone a cDNA sequence encoding Bla g 1.02 (EF202179) which shared 98.6-99.8% identity with a previously reported Bla g 1.02 (AF072220).

Abstract To be agile and cost effective, data centers should allow dynamic resource allocation across large server pools. In particular, the data center network should enable any server to be assigned to any service. To meet these goals, we present VL2, a practical network architecture that scales to support huge data centers with uniform high capacity between servers, performance isolation between services, and Ethernet layer-2 semantics.

Abstract This paper discusses the modeling and control of a robotic manipulator with a new deburring tool, which integrates two pneumatic actuators to take advantage of a double cutting action. A coordination control method is developed by decomposing the robotic deburring system into two subsystems; the arm and the deburring tool. A decentralized control approach is pursued, in which suitable controllers were designed for the two subsystems in the coordination scheme.

Abstract–While today's data centers are multiplexed across many non-cooperating applications, they lack effective means to share their network. Relying on TCP's congestion control, as we show from experiments in production data centers, opens up the network to denial of service attacks and performance interference. We present Seawall, a network bandwidth allocation scheme that divides network capacity based on an administrator-specified policy.

Background Generating sequence alignments from superimposed structures is an important part of many structure comparison programs. The accuracy of the alignment affects structure recognition, classification and possibly function prediction. Many programs use a dynamic programming algorithm to generate the sequence alignment from superimposed structures. However, this procedure requires using a gap penalty and, depending on the value of the penalty used, can introduce spurious gaps and misalignments.

ABSTRACT Internet routers' forwarding table (FIB) sizes are growing quickly due to factors such as increased multihoming, finergrained traffic engineering, and deployment of IPv6 and VPNs. Since FIBs must be stored in fast memory to support line-rate packet forwarding, large FIBs drastically increase router hardware costs, power usage, and heat dissipation.

Abstract IP networks today require massive effort to configure and manage. Ethernet is vastly simpler to manage, but does not scale beyond small local area networks. This paper describes an alternative network architecture called SEIZE that achieves the best of both worlds: The scalability of IP combined with the simplicity of Ethernet. SEIZE provides plugand-play functionality via flat addressing, while ensuring scalability and efficiency through shortest-path routing and hash-based location resolution.

Abstract Managing today's data networks is highly expensive, difficult, and error-prone. At the center of this enormous difficulty lies configuration: a Sisyphean task of updating operational settings of numerous network devices and protocols. Much has been done to mask this configuration complexity intrinsic to conventional networks, but little effort has been made to redesign the networks themselves to make them easier to configure.

Background Accurate sequence alignment is required in many bioinformatics applications but, when sequence similarity is low, it is difficult to obtain accurate alignments based on sequence similarity alone. The accuracy improves when the structures are available, but current structure-based sequence alignment procedures still mis-align substantial numbers of residues.

Abstract Intracellular cAMP and Ca 2+ are involved in the regulation of steroidogenic activity in Leydig cells, which coordinate responses to luteinizing hormone (LH) and human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG). However, the identification of Ca 2+ entry implicated in Leydig cell steroidogenesis is not well defined. The objective of this study was to identify the type of Ca 2+ channel that affects Leydig cell steroidogenesis. In vitro steroidogenesis in the freshly dissociated Leydig cells of mice was induced by hCG incubation.

Abstract The shared multi-tenant nature of the cloud has raised serious concerns about its security and performance for high valued services. Of many shared resources like CPU, memory, etc., the network is pivotal for distributed applications. Benign, or perhaps malicious traffic interference between tenants can cause significant performance degradation that hurts performance of applications, and hence, impacts their revenue.

Background Many functional proteins have a symmetric structure. Most of these are multimeric complexes, which are made of non-symmetric monomers arranged in a symmetric manner. However, there are also a large number of proteins that have a symmetric structure in the monomeric state. These internally symmetric proteins are interesting objects from the point of view of their folding, function, and evolution.

As the Internet is quickly evolving from best-effort networks to a very critical communications infrastructure that requires higher quality Internet services and the delivery of such communications services become competitive, large-scale NSPs or ISPs have to concern much more on the performance and efficient resource usages of their networks. This situation naturally leads the providers to seek a possible solution from traffic engineering (TE) methodologies.

Abstract Network performance problems are notoriously tricky to diagnose, and this is magnified when applications are often split into multiple tiers of application components spread across thousands of servers in a data center. Problems often arise in the communication between the tiers, where either the application or the network (or both!) could be to blame. In this paper, we present SNAP, a scalable network-application profiler that guides developers in identifying and fixing performance problems.

Background Accurate sequence alignments are essential for homology searches and for building three-dimensional structural models of proteins. Since structure is better conserved than sequence, structure alignments have been used to guide sequence alignments and are commonly used as the gold standard for sequence alignment evaluation. Nonetheless, as far as we know, there is no report of a systematic evaluation of pairwise structure alignment programs in terms of the sequence alignment accuracy.

Abstract This paper presents a new traffic engineering technique for dynamic constrained multicast routing, where the routing request of traffic arrives one-by-one. The objective we adopted is to minimize the maximum of link utilization. Although this traffic engineering is useful to relax the most heavily congested link in the Internet backbone, the total network resources, ie sum of link bandwidth consumed, could be wasted when the acquired path is larger (in terms of number of hops) than the conventional shortest path.

Abstract Recombinant immunotoxins (RITs) are anti-cancer agents that combine the Fv of an antibody against cancer cells with a protein toxin from bacteria or plants. Since RITs contain a non-human protein, immunogenicity can be an obstacle in their development. In this study, we have explored the hypothesis that increasing stability can reduce the immunogenicity of a RIT using HA22-LR, which is composed of an anti-CD22 Fv fused to domain III of Pseudomonas exotoxin A.

Abstract By exploiting nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) techniques along with novel applications of saturation difference analysis, we deciphered the functions of the previously uncharacterized products of three bacterial genes, rbsD, fucU, and yiiL, which are part of the ribose, fucose, and rhamnose operons of Escherichia coli, respectively. We show that RbsD catalyzes the pyran to furan conversion of ribose, whereas FucU and YiiL are involved in the catalysis of the anomeric conversion of their respective sugars.

Abstract MPLS technology has recently been widely adopted, not only in large-scale IP backbones, but in metro and enterprise networks as well. Among the merits of MPLS, effective and efficient support of TE (traffic engineering) and VPN (virtual private network) services is the most influential factor that has facilitated the diffusion of the technology.

Abstract It has been believed that the defect structure of “undoped” BaTi 1-η O 3-δ be governed by background acceptor impurities, most likely Al Ti′, in its near stoichiometry regime (δ≈ 0). Its electrical conductivity versus oxygen activity should, thus, be expected to be similar to that of Al-doped BaTiO 3 not only in equilibrium state at elevated temperatures, but also in quenched state at low temperatures.

Abstract Multi protocol label switching (MPLS) is generally considered a mature technology. Many Internet service providers (ISP) and telecommunication carriers have deployed it or are considering deploying it. An easy-to-use integrated management solution is requested by these ISP. To realize a truly integrated management solution, a combined management information model is essential.

Abstract While today's virtual datacenters have hypervisor based mechanisms to partition compute resources between the tenants co-located on an end host, they provide little control over how tenants shore the network. This opens cloud applications to interference from other tenants, resulting in unpredictable performance and exposure to denial of service attacks. This paper explores the design space for achieving performance isolation between tenants.

Abstract. Internet routers' forwarding tables (FIBs), which must be stored in expensive fast memory for high-speed packet forwarding, are growing quickly in size due to increased multihoming, finer-grained traffic engineering, and deployment of IPv6 and VPNs. To address this problem, several Internet architectures have been proposed to reduce FIB size by returning to the earlier approach of route caching: storing only the working set of popular routes in the FIB. This paper revisits route caching.

Abstract A traffic engineering problem consists of setting up paths between the edge nodes of the network to meet traffic demands while optimizing the network performance. It is known that total traffic throughput in a network, hence the resource utilization, can be maximized if the traffic demand is split over multiple paths. However, the problem formulation and practical algorithms, which calculate the paths and the traffic split ratio taking the route constraints or policies into consideration, have not been much touched.

The difference in doping behaviors of intermediate rare-earth ions and their effects on the dielectric property and microstructure of BaTiO3 (BT)–MgO–Re2O3 (Re= Dy, Ho, Y) system were investigated. Compared to Y and Ho, Dy ions provided BT ceramics with a high rate of densification and much enhanced shell formation due to their high solubility in BT. However, the microstructure of the Dy doped specimen was unstable at high temperatures in terms of grain growth.
