The fact that these traits are similar in nature indicates the objective character of this historical phenomenon, allowing to include the religious movements in the category of social movements.

century the... more Russian Church Archimandrit Theodor (Bukharev) watching in the second half of the XIX century the beginning of the crisis of religious consciousness in society, became convinced of necessity of a new and purposeful Christianization of his time. Christianization, on Bukharev, required the renovation of traditional theology, – involvement in and adaptation to Orthodoxy the achievements of modern Western European philosophical and natural-scientific ideas and church activities in a society. To the second condition, it was enough willpower, but the first one required the theological justification the unity of knowledge and faith, science and religion. The article examines Archimandrit Theodor (Bukharev)’s concept of synthesis between the science and religion, and organizes the directions of his theology.
