Marco Curatola Petrocchi
Marco Curatola Petrocchi (Milano, 27/12/1951), etnohistoriador, es profesor principal de Historia y director de la revista "Histórica" del Departamento de Humanidades, y director de la "Colección Estudios Andinos" del Fondo Editorial de la Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú.
Ha sido director del Programa de Estudios Andinos (Programa de Maestría y Doctorado en Antropología, Arqueología, Historia y Lingüística) de la Escuela de Posgrado PUCP (2006-2021).
Luego del diploma en Estudios Clásicos, realizó estudios de etnología, historia y arqueología en la Università degli Studi di Genova (Doctor en Filosofía y Diploma de Perfeccionamiento en Arqueología e Historia del Arte Antiguo) y de antropología y etnohistoria en la Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (Magíster en Antropología).
Ha sido Visiting Scholar del Centre of Latin American Studies y Visiting Fellow del King’s College de la University of Cambridge (1983-1984); Fellow in Precolumbian Studies de Dumbarton Oaks (Harvard University), Washington D.C. (2009-2010); Tinker Visiting Professor in Anthropology at the Center of Latin American Studies, University of Chicago (Spring quarter 2013), Profesor Visitante de la École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (Paris) (febrero-marzo 2018), y Visiting Research Fellow de la Sainsbury Research Unit, Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts, University of East Anglia, Norwich (septiembre-diciembre 2021).
Especialista de historia de la cultura andina, se ha ocupado en particular de la religión del mundo andino antiguo, la civilización inca, los cultos de crisis nativos del primer período colonial, crónicas y fuentes indígenas, e historia de la etnohistoria. Sobre estos temas ha publicado los libros Il giardino d’oro del dio Sole. Dei, culti e messia delle Ande (Napoli 1997), Adivinación y oráculos en el mundo andino antiguo (ed. con M. Ziólkowski, Lima 2008), El quipu colonial. Estudios y materiales (ed. con J.C. de la Puente, Lima 2013), El Inca y la huaca. La religión del poder y el poder de la religión en el mundo andino antiguo (ed. con con J. Szemiñski, Lima 2016), El estudio del mundo andino (ed., Lima, 2019), y El arte antes de la historia. Para una historia del arte andino antiguo (ed. con C. Michaud, J. Pillsbury y Lisa Trever, Lima 2020), así como numerosos ensayos y artículos, entre los cuales las entradas “Divination”, “Deities” y “Oracles” de la Encyclopedia of the Incas (2015) de G. Urton y A. von Hagen (eds.).
Desde 1991 al 2004 dirigió el sector América de la Enciclopedia Archeologica, del Istituto della Enciclopedia Italiana, Roma: ha sido co-editor de los primeros dos tomos (Il Mondo dell’Archeologia, Roma 2002) y editor del III (Americhe - Oceania, Roma 2004). Para la Enciclopedia Archeologica ha escrito numerosos artículos sobre historia de la arqueología americana, arqueología e historia inca, agricultura y tecnología andina prehispánica.
Actualmente viene desarrollando un progetto de investigación sobre los oráculos en el mundo andino antiguo.
Ha dictado cursos, seminarios y conferencias en la Lunds Universitet, la University of California at Davis, la Hebrew University of Jerusalem, la Università di Roma “La Sapienza”, la Universidad Pablo de Olavide de Sevilla, la Universität Heidelberg, Dumbarton Oaks, la City University of New York, la Syracuse University, la Yale University, la Università di Roma Tre, la George Washington University, la Harvard University, la Vanderbilt University, la University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, la Southern Methodist University, la Universität Bonn, la Uniwersytet Warszawski y la Université de Poitiers.
Desde 1980 a 1999 fue curador (director arqueólogo) del Departamento de América del Museo Nazionale Preistorico ed Etnografico de Roma, organizando varias exposiciones arqueológicas y etnográficas, y desempeñando contemporáneamente actividad de docencia en la Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (Profesor de la Especialidad y la Maestría en Antropología, 1992-1994) y en la Pontificia Università Gregoriana de Roma (Profesor de Antropología Social, 1994-1999), así como proyectos de campo en la sierra sur del Perú. Ha sido también coordinador (1998-1999) de la sección de Antropología Histórica de la Società Italiana di Scienze Etno-Antropologiche.
Ha sido experto asociado en arqueología y museología de la UNESCO (1984-1987), coordinando proyectos en el campo de la protección del patrimonio cultural, la museología y la enseñanza de la arqueología en diferentes países de América Latina, así como experto de la OIM en el Museo de la Nación, Lima (1992-1994).
Es miembro de los Comités Editoriales del Boletín del Museo Chileno de Arte Precolombino, Santiago, y de la Revista Andina, Centro Bartolomé de las Casas, Cusco; miembro del Instituto Riva-Agüero, Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú; y miembro correspondiente del Institute of Andean Studies, Berkeley.
