Even when these works are protruding, there has been a paucity of works that examines the narratives of stratification that are used by the different patriarchal societies to sustain this culture of inequity. Consequently, this work has the mandate to consider this, specifically. Using the feminist theory, it is gathered that in other for many institutions of patriarchy to continue its dominance, there have been different narratives that are used to aid their provincial agenda. These narratives are powerful to the extent that once adopted, they become potent in the hands of everyone, including the female themselves, and the resultant consequence is that they are left to permanently occupy second-class positions in their societies and this has various negative outcomes on them. The study therefore concludes that there is the need to reconsider these narratives so that females that attain a level of freedom that they actually deserve and that they can live with their integrity undenied.

This work, which attempted to analyze the marginalization of the Maghreb woman, examined the pathetic fate of the fairer sex of the area, under the yoke of their silence and discussed the points of convergence and divergences in Tahar's Lowered Eyes Ben Jelloun and Shadow Sultana by Assia Djebar. This study is framed by feminism and sociology of the Maghreb world. A critical study of the chosen works has been carried out. An inventory of structures denouncing the oppression of the weaker sex was drawn up for our analysis. Our work is based on religious and socio-political beliefs bearing on the central theme, namely the confinement of women which makes them perpetually in a state of dependence. On this, we have seen the denunciation of these retrograde powers as well as the proposal of our authors with regard to the freedom of women. This study revealed that our two writers questioned the deplorable fate of women, the degrading state of their country as well as the awareness of the people to put an end to these powers which enslave the fatherland. We concluded by arguing that education plays a major role in the liberation of the masses. Of course, literature and the power of language have been established as viable tools to highlight the messages and worldview of authors who serve to expose the vices of our societies.

The study employed the framework of feminism. A critical reading of the selected novel-Riwan ou le Chemin de sable par Ken Bugul was done. Existing literature, interview with the author was reviewed using. an inventory of discourse and structure in novels upholding polygamy, on one hand, denouncing patriarchy on the other hand. The results revealed that though, the author tries to present an angelic image of polygamy and virginity being held in high esteem, the underlying messages stigmatizing arranged and early marriages, Marriage which was established by God as a means of bringing comfort to the couple has now become a source of woe to many traditional African societies. Manners failed in achieving the aim for which it was established. In many African cultures, marriage has become a source of trauma for many women due to the patriarchal system practiced by many cultures. The female author surprisingly presents a positive image of polygamy by saying that it should not be a dreaded relationship but that enlightened women folks should reconsider their stand.

In recent time, that tide of influence has been sweeping the African intellectual space with a form of torrent that necessitates diverging views. Many of the works in this direction argue that Africans undermine their female's economic freedom by distancing from them the means of production, and by implication, their financial access. There is thus the paucity of intellectual engagements that considers necessary the decolonization of the existing economic structure of Africa, achievable through the knowledge of distributive economies that permeated their system before colonial experience. Consequently, this work concentrates on decolonizing this structure by taking a gendered lesson from two texts, namely, Flora Nwakpa’s Efuru and Buchi Emecheta's The Joys of Motherhood. To achieve this, Akachi Ezeigbo's snail-sense feminism is used, as its tenets are anchors for situating the contemporary African economic structure within its colonial heritages. The culture of protest demonstrated by the protagonists of the text is an awareness and consciousness of the roles of women in primordial African setting and they appear to be unapologetic about making their voices heard, and their roles count. Role-reversal, and economic restructurings are evident of this adrenaline protest, and the works therefore exemplify economic frameworks useful in revolutionizing the polity.

Our choice for this novel is particularly caused by the fact that this work exposes the shocking life of the protagonist who revolts against the system established by retrograde traditions and its adverse impact on the culture and religion of black Africa. This study makes use of narratology, also known as the narrative voice or narrative context as theoretical frame work. A critical reading of selected novel rebel Fatou Keita was made. We reviewed the status of the subject areas about writers and narratology by using the theory of the work of Gérard Genette, model Lucie Guillemette and Cynthia Levesque. An inventory of narrative structures that denounce the oppressive powers in the novel was drawn for analysis. Subsequently, we proposed a statistical representation of simple percentage on analytical categories of the techniques for denouncing negative powers of traditions. The work revealed that the author made use of various narrative techniques to expose the socio-cultural injustices of the community in particular and Africa in general. The most prominent are: free indirect discourse and especially the interior monologues that expose stigmatizing abuses, oppression of men, that is to say, the subjugation of women caused by the patriarchal society. The study also revealed that the dialogues have severely condemned other ailments such as imperialism, racism, rape, forced marriage and female circumcision. The study also identified violence, a common element to all the stories as a way to protest against the cruel powers. The study has established the fact that narratology is a viable tool to highlight writers messages.

Narrative and literary-metaphor are literary forms and formats of literature employed by writers ... more Narrative and literary-metaphor are literary forms and formats of literature employed by writers in scripting historical archives, mediating structural realities, intervening in socio-cultural contexts and moderating contemporary textual creativity. They are also employed by artistes in translating literary texts and interpreting them into contrived-reality, pseudo-reality and virtual-reality scenarios in our globalised post-modernist world. The intersections of popular democracy and government narrative metaphors amid the resource-curse dilemma, is the focus of this study. Governments globally derive from the people, and narrative literary elements guide the communication and interpretations of policies and determine how the people can be focused on these policies and goals. However, governance narrative elements and its metaphorical intents do not always serve noble purposes for the peoples' benefits and aspirations for nationhood, but can be altered, adjusted or contrived to serve other nefarious purposes in governance. This paper draws from the assertions of narrative theorists such as Todorov, Propp and Barthes to deliver an assay of the consequences of literary narratives within the context of mixed-metaphors and resource-curse dilemma that impinge upon good governance dynamics in Nigeria and Africa.

In contemporary times, any individual who cannot read or write is an illiterate and will therefore encounter both sociological and psychological discomforts. This societal misfit will not only affect the individual, but also the larger society. A life that does not not have adequate experience of the walls of the classroom during the early part of the 21st century could be likened to person who cannot see in the midst of a bright light. In many parts of Africa and other developing nations, little attention has however been paid over the century to the education of the children, especially the female ones. Unfortunately, gender barrier has made the male counterpart to soar higher in life and rendered the weaker sex inferior. This paper therefore tries toshed light on how the knowledge of literture, and education, in general, can help women fight this evil done to their gender. It is evident that the teaching and learning of foreign languages in Nigeria, a country of diverse ethnic groups, are hard hit by series of problems. It is hoped that through various researches that highlight different aspects of the learners difficulties, their trauma will be greatly reduced. In view of this, we have made a comparative analysis of the problems and proffered possible solutions to help the teacher as well as the learners. Be it English as a second language or French as a second official language in Nigeria, both are foreign and must be considered as much. Pedagogical approaches are proposed in the paper to enhance the teaching of these languages in Nigeria.

This brand position generally includes imaginary or mystic features in anticipation for optimistic ending. Epiphany is a vital concept that is yet to be understood as a narrative device in this literary work specifically, and in contemporary francophone African women novels. Several scholars have examined gender issues in Aminata Sow Fall’s Douceurs du bercail (1998) to the neglect of epiphany as demonstrated by the fictional protagonist. This paper is a study aimed at synthesizing how “epiphany” with or without its scriptural allusion, enhances rapid and positive transformational changes in the reconstruction of the heroine’s identity. Epiphany is conceptualised as a literary device and its manifestation is brought to the fore through the protagonist in Aminata Sow Fall’s Douceurs du bercail. The novel is subjected to close reading as a method of collecting data. This article raises a fundamental question: Can a woman dwelling in male-dominated society still reconstruct her identity when marriage and motherhood roles are successful at first, and they experience failure later? Thus, ‘epiphany’ is emphasised as an instrument of transformation in the hand of the novelist to trigger the heroine’s struggle for the reconstruction of her identity. This paper then concludes that epiphany enhances development that leads to positive ends. Ignorance makes way for wisdom, and life-changing indices have the greatest influence on the life of the fictional heroine.
