The study also aims to identify and categorize Russian entrepreneurs’ needs for training, consulting and other types of assistance in business development and management in domestic and international context. Beyond current analysis the study contrasts and compares entrepreneurial characteristics with those identified in the early-mid 1990s during the first stage of the study.

Authors examine various spheres of co-operation and explores operational and cultural areas that potentially transform the educational paradigm in business education. Authors also highlight main directions in transformation of managerial technologies used in administering joint Master Degree programs in Management. The process of transformation is based on the concept of shifting from single-nation model to multifaceted nature of education which has an impact on decision-making practices, student and faculty recruitment, reward systems, information systems, and even work structures.

on Russian energy imports. This dependency requires sustainable energy solutions. Russian
economy is characterized by high energy consumption and intensity. Russian energy sector needs massive
investments, technological and management improvements. They become problematic due to the nation’s
poor investment climate, stagnating economy, and isolationist foreign policy. These, along with Russia’s
emerging reorientation of its energy exports toward Asia tend to worsen European energy security. The
chapter explores trends in the global energy and analyses the dynamics and outlook for sustainable energy
security in Europe in the context of import dependency in energy. It looks at the drivers, constrains and
trends in the Russian energy sector in the Eurasian regional context. Despite technological advances,
policies toward sustainable development and renewable energy, in the next two decades Europe will
predominantly depend on fossil fuels and Russian energy imports.

Sustainable Systems and Energy Management at the Regional Level: Comparative Approaches, 2012

European energy security, its alternatives, and implications are examined in this chapter with the view of sustainability and the EU-Russian energy dialog. With an asymmetric mutual political-economic interdependency with Russia, Europe’s exposure in oil and gas calls for sustainable energy solutions. Meantime, Russia, the key energy supplier in the European region, is also a major energy consumer whose economy is characterized by high energy intensity. Russian energy sector needs serious improvements in technology, investment, and management: failure to address these priorities erodes Russia’s reliability as major regional energy supplier. The chapter explores the dynamics of Russian energy sector and implications for European energy security and sustainability.

A longitudinal study of small business in Russia revealed growing demand for business education and consultations. A 2009 survey identified rankings among topics in business learning as well as sources of knowledge and consultations. Sources of experiential learning (other business owners, large firm executives, university business professors with business experience, and mentors) emerged on the top; university professors without practical experience were ranked low. Three skill development exercises in International Business curriculum were selected for the next stage of Russian-U.S. comparative study in experiential learning.

Russia is top energy producer, exporter, and supplier in Eurasia that is extremely dependent on imported energy. With Eurasian region’s critical dependency on oil and gas imports, Russian energy sector also plays prominent role in its foreign policy. Emerging global imbalances in energy supply and demand coupled with inefficiencies in domestic energy production and consumption may in the future press Russia to limit its energy exports in favor of satisfying domestic consumption. That may jeopardize European energy security. The paper examines the dynamics of the Russian energy sector, development scenarios, and policy implications for regional energy security under the Energy Strategy 2030.

The article explores the dynamics of energy sector in Russia and their impacts on the European region where dependence on Russia is exacerbated by increasing competition for energy access from economic giants of China, India, and other emerging economies.

conducted in Russia in two stages: in 1994 and in 2008. This
study examined entrepreneurial climate and developments in
Russia’s small businesses with a focus on motivations and obstacles in starting up and operating businesses. It also aimed at analyzing entrepreneurs’ needs for training, consulting, and other types of assistance in a comparative context. Russia’s climate for small and medium enterprises (SME) and entrepreneurship has improved, although it is still a work in progress. The 2008 survey indicated younger age, greater share of female entrepreneurs, and remaining small size of the firms. Though the level of SME entrepreneurial activities in Russia is still lower than in major developed economies, the gap is diminishing. Thise study found no significant differences between 1994 and 2008 in terms of entrepreneurial motivations and obstacles; several shifts and trends in motivations and obstacles were identified in their relative importance in SME dynamics.

Under the post-Soviet transition the service sector in Russia is one of the most dynamic sectors of the national economy. There are strong indications of positive entrepreneurial developments in such segments of the service sector as construction and home improvement, real estate, wholesale and retail trade, banking, insurance, hospitality, tourism, and other industries. The paper identifies current patterns and trends, motivations and obstacles for entrepreneurship in the Russian service sector. It focuses on high propriety sub sectors in the service sector that are highly attractive for entrepreneurs and factors making those sub sectors particularly attractive; geographic, demographic and other factors affecting demand for services; major obstacles in the service sector affiliated with entrepreneurial business venture start-ups; key governance and support factors on the part of local and federal government; and finally common patterns of decision making in entrepreneurial business venture start-ups.
