In terms of origin, they were nomads from the Scythians steppes. The Parthians’ invasion of Seleucid Kingdom and establishment of their own regime marked the beginning of their Hellenization process. The Hellenization of the Parthians was manifested in the acceptance of Hellenistic coins, Greek language, culture and religious beliefs, as well as their marriages with the Greeks and the pursuit of friendly relations with the Greeks within the Empire. With objective historical backgrounds for sure, the Hellenization of the Parthians was also a result of the ruling class’ political and cultural considerations. Unlike other Hellenistic states in this period, the Hellenization of the Parthians was characterized by obvious instability, imbalance, and superficiality. Understanding the cultural attributes of the Parthians was a prerequisite for examining the Hellenization of the Parthians

In terms of the historical development of transportation in the Western Section of the Silk Roads, the Parthian Age is an extremely important stage. Although in the pre-Parthian era, the traffic in the western part of the Silk Roads had already taken shaped, the instability of the political situation in the western section had greatly hindered the further development of the traffic pattern. With the rise of the Parthian Empire and its effective operation for the imperial traffic, the western part of the Silk Roads achieved unprecedented development under the guarantee of the unified order of the Parthian Empire and formed a new traffic pattern across the middle of the main line、the north and south branch lines. It is helpful to study the relationship between Parthian Empire and the Silk Roads by investigating the traffic routes in the western section of the Silk Roads during the Parthian period.

The output mode of silk includes tributing、bestowing、selling and monetizing during the Han dynasties. With the outward transportation of silk by approaches mentioned above, China had made more and more business transactions with the regimes in the Western Regions. Silk trade was affected by a variety of factors, such as complex physical environment、 the diversity of nations and languages、various trade route、diversification of trade currencies、government policy、war and migration of the people、man-made disaster and the system of world trade and transportation and so on. We can learn the basic characteristics of silk trade through the comprehensive survey for the above factors.
