In the first part thereof, basing on the source literature, the author defines the essence of ethnic media and shows the possibilities of developing such media in Poland after the political transformation in 1989. The next part of the article is devoted to the Ukrainian minority and their media. Both the traditional media and the media based on new technologies were described in the article. Taking into consideration the traditional media, a special attention was paid to the oldest weekly newspaper entitled “Nasze Slowo”, which, for over 60 years, has been playing in the above mentioned minority group an opinion-forming, educational, integrating and mobilisation role in view of the current problems relevant from the perspective of the Ukrainian minority in Poland. The role of other traditional media such as radio and television in the process of maintaining, recreating and reinterpretating the ethnic identity was also emphasised. The growing importance of a new medium – the Internet - was also mentioned. For groups living in dispersion, the Internet constitutes a convenient space for articulating group interest, is a place for presenting elements of their own identity and provides a platform for negotiating and renegotiating the meanings relevant from the point of view of group boundaries. The author also draws the attention to the fact that the number of persons coming from Ukraine to Poland for educational and work purposes is growing each year. Their presence will definitely have an influence on the media addressed to the Ukrainians living in Poland.
