Gétatchèw Mèkurya (Amharic: ጌታቸው መኩሪያ) (14 March 1935 – 4 April 2016)[1][2] was an Ethiopian jazz saxophonist. Mekurya reached an international audience when his album Negus of Ethiopian Sax was re-released as part of the Ethiopiques CD series. Mekurya's playing style has been compared to free jazz.[3]
Mekurya died in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia from a leg infection caused by diabetes on 4 April 2016, aged 81.[4]
