Michael Carrick (born 28 July 1981) is an English professional football coach and former player who is currently the head coach of EFL Championship club Middlesbrough. He is best known for his 12-year playing career with Manchester United, for whom he was also captain.[3] Carrick was a central midfielder, but he was used as an emergency centre-back under Alex Ferguson, David Moyes, Louis van Gaal and José Mourinho. His playing style was grounded in his passing ability.[4][5]
