More precisely, we explore some conceptual, methodological and technical possibilities for the implementation of a national online data aggregator covering multiple areas, such as economic development, health, education, sustainable development, R&D, science and technology in Romania. The data aggregator is a means of ensuring knowledge transfer, science popularization and, most importantly, facilitating evidence-based policy making. The aggregator will support policy and decision makers in identifying and exploiting the country’s competitive advantages in a European and global setting. The urgency of the topic results from the well-recognized gap between the production of scientific evidence and the use of that evidence by policy-making bodies, public administration, and designated agencies (Jacobs et al., BMC Health Services Research, 12(1), 1–9, 2012). Closing the gap is possible via knowledge trans...

As the way to stop the pandemic was unveiled, misleading narratives switched from the disease itself to the vaccine. Nevertheless, a rather scarce corpus of literature has approached the effects of these narratives on the willingness to take a vaccine against COVID-19. This study investigates how exposure to conspiracy narratives versus information that counter these narratives influences people’s willingness to get vaccinated. Based on an experimental design, using a sample of Romanian students (N=301), this research shows that exposure to factual information related to COVID-19 vaccines meant to debunk conspiracy theories leads to higher willingness to vaccinate. Furthermore, this study shows that young, educated Romanians consider distant others to be more influenced by conspiracy theories on this topic, and, therefore, more prone ...

The effects of such questionable information primarily concern the lack of compliance with restrictive measures and a negative attitude towards vaccination campaigns, as well as more complex social effects, such as street protests or distrust in governments and authorities in general. Even though there is a lot of scholarly attention given to these narratives in many countries, research about the profile of people who are more prone to believe or spread them is rather scarce. In this context, we investigate the role of age, compared with other socio-demographic factors (such as education and religiosity), as well as the role of the media (the frequency of news consumption, the perceived usefulness of soci...

The political incongruities, the disintegrating tendencies culminating with Brexit, the divisions between northern and southern states over economic crisis and austerity measures, the refugee waves and their poor integration into society, the rise of populist and extremist currents, etc. have caused anger, confusion and fear among Europeans, influencing the relations between member states and public perceptions. In this unstable context, studying people’s opinion on the EU and its subtle mechanisms becomes an important and pragmatic effort, as the public has the means to pursue action based on its feelings of support or opposition towards the community block. By looking at the present context, the purpose of this research is to assess the challenges and transformations of the EU-related opinions and support of traditional euro-enthusiastic citizens in times of vulnerability and struggling economies. Equally, the paper favours a future-oriented view, and puts under scrutiny people’s expectations and evaluations of the future developments of the EU and their consequences at personal, national and supra-national level.

In this regard, the core of the paper is to understand the main adaptive challenges generated by students’ educational transition, and to identify the factors and strategies they employ to overcome them.Facilitating a more positive adjustment and educational experience for the international students remains a growing interest and concern in higher education (Shigaki, Smith, 1997; Olivas, Li, 2006; Wenhua, Zhe, 2013). However, most of the studies that investigate educational transitions focus on the attitudes and adjustment problems of foreign students in the United States (Zimmermann, 1995; de Araujo, 2011). In this context, we find it important and pertinent to examine the adjustment experiences that European students undergo in Europe, in order to learn more about the stages and forms of intercult...

Using quantitative and qualitative methods, we look at the relevance of learning methods for the development of a (civic, instrumental and cultural) European identity among adolescents in secondary schools and Erasmus students.

The article falls in several parts: initially, it engages with discussing the main theoretical perspectives on the concept of identity as highlighted in the current literature. The following section presents the trends regarding the presence or the absence of a European identity. The final part reveals the relationship between the European identity and Otherness, with an emphasis on the influence that alterity may have in generating the premises for creating a common European sense of belonging.

Specifically, this study reveals how different layers of individual and collective identification co-exist and become prominent during short-time academic sojourns abroad. Emphasis is placed on the European sense of belonging and the contexts that favor its assuming. Literature dedicated to exploring European student mobility as a potential source in fostering a European identity has started to grow lately. However, very few studies have tried to test empirically the assumption that students’ academic stages abroad increase their attachment to Europe. Likewise, empirical findings seldom discuss experiences of international students from the new Member States, such as Romania. In this context, the present paper focuses on Romanian students who have been enrolled in the Erasmus exchange program and have performed, during ...
