It has changed the ways audiences interact with films, television and web series, advertising, gaming and book publishing. It has also shifted the practices around creation and dissemination of such content. This book asserts that the futures of transmedia storytelling for social impact or change are deeply tied to understandings of place grounded in human geography. Through a series of case studies of projects which challenge the status quo of transmedia, this book explores the elements of transmedia that can be used to amplify under-represented voices and make stories that signal a more inclusive and sustainable future. This book offers a valuable contribution to the literature in the areas of transmedia storytelling, narratology, digital fiction, electronic literature, locative storytelling, performative writing, digital culture studies and human geography.<br/

The researcher also devised other audio visual material for exhibition at the event.Staged as part of Portsmouth Darkfest 2018, ‘Cure or be Cured’ was an evening of spoken word, film projections and immersive theatre all inspired by the iconic Plague Doctors who tried to cure sufferers of the Black Death in the 14th Century. The Front Room presented a programme of ‘healing rituals’ in the atmospheric setting of Southsea Castle. The audience were invited to find sanctuary in the courtyard from the ‘plague’ and all other horrors that lurk in the night

The text for the performance was a poem by Jackson Davies entitled The Establishment. Brave New World was the second of a series of events that aimed to blur the boundaries between live performance, spoken world, and audio visual arts staged by The front Room in Portsmouth

The event was part of the first Darkfest, a celebration of creativity in Portsmouth, UK inspired by the Supernatural Cities Project.A night saw a range pf performances and collaborations including audio visual performance, live electronica, spoken word, installations, interstitial architects, psycho-geographers, kinetic sculptors, live artists and theatre makers. As an example of the work produced we have added to this post the transcription of a community poem collated from audience contributions during the night. You can see a bit of this being performed in the video

Staged by 1000 Plateaus, an occasional open platform for artists working in performance and audio visual arts. The event is conceived as an artist’s digital POTLATCH, the means by which reciprocal relations are formed through gift giving and exchange. It is digital because we are immersed within the territorializing discourses of technology though many artists employ analogue processes. It is neither a ‘one’ nor ‘zero’ but inhabits a space between. Participating artists are encouraged to adopt the principles of; “radical” inclusion, self-reliance, self-expression, de-commodification, community cooperation, gifting and leaving no trace

Participants respond silently to a visual trigger and inscribe their contribution to the story idea via posters which are continually added to in an iterative process of questioning and response. The final posters are then taken away, either individually or in groups and used as the basis for further fiction/factual, script/story development. The approach can be as a rapid development activity that is of benefit where time for ideas development is restricted. It can also be adapted easily to other settings, contexts and subject disciplines. The workshop will model the use of this technique on a media practice fiction production course where there is a need for rapid development of an outline story idea that can go into preproduction.<br/

The workshop will provide a platform for the active investigation of PL-PBL methodologies and will also encourage participants to question the traditional notion of ‘what is a project’ and to evaluate their own practice in the light of a PBL approach. This bookable workshop will be made available through the ADM-HEA.

They are organized into five sections according to themes. In the first two sections, the papers concentrate on social engagement. The first set of papers focuses on confinement, racism, and the pandemic during COVID-19. The second involves interactive responses to social issues such as migration, indigenous, refugees, and the environment. Sections three and four foreground debates about the levels of interactivity experienced in films and games. In the third set of papers, the authors focus on the medium’s capacities to involve the player or the user in interactivity, while papers comprising the fourth set question the process of immersion and explore levels of interactivity more fully. Finally, in the fifth and final section, the papers focus on the environment of digital art and media, challenging our understanding of what is an “art” in a digital world. Here we invite you to explore the second set of the published papers in proceedings from the #IFM2021 Virtual Conference.
