We have set-up an experiment based on the interaction of an individual with a virtual environment of watercraft rowing, aimed at exploring how cognitive performance is affected by the simultaneous undertaking of a complex and race-oriented motor task in two different conditions: direct and avatar-mediated interaction.

This field can take great advantage of latest human-machine interface (HMI) technologies that has been applied in the last years in field like virtual environments and robotics. The present paper discusses a novel approach for interactive operation of working machines. The approach combines traditional controls with visual/vision and haptic interactions. A wearable projection system has been introduced with the purpose of describing a wide set of localized commands recognized by the system's vision module. A preliminary setup has been developed using a simplified demonstration platform. A test session applied to a manipulation robot is presented to evaluate the performance of the proposed solutions in terms of task effectiveness, neglect tolerance, interaction effort and usability of the human-machine interface.

This paper deals with the haptic rendering of the catching and throwing of objects by means of this type of interface. A general model for the rendering of

Several approaches based on wave variables have already been proposed to deal with time-varying delay. However, these approaches are too conservative resulting in high degradation from the constant time delay case. In this paper, we propose a new control scheme for bilateral teleoperation under time-varying communication delay entirely developed in the wave ...

In the context of training for industrial maintenance the capturing and modeling of interaction forces are important elements that allow to characterize the skills of users. This paper describes a device that can be used for acquiring such forces for later use in the context of a training ...

Most wave-based approaches proposed in literature to deal with time-varying delay appear too conservative resulting in high degradation from the constant time delay case. We have already proposed a bilateral control scheme with energy balance monitoring over packet switched communication networks. In the previous work, we dealt ...
