This rivalry is all about satisfying customer demand and his changing style. In order to enhance competitiveness and efficiency of manufacturing operations, many companies are looking at implementing new technologies and techniques to reduce their wastes and increase their profits, As many companies thrive to improve quality and cut costs to increase their capability and performance, some of the strategies designed for improvements were underpinned by Total Quality Management (TQM). According to Thomas Pyzdek, The Six Sigma Revolution, TQM was composed of over 400 tools and techniques whereas six sigma concentrated on a handful of tried and proven methods that existed for many decades. By training in-house technical leaders (Six Sigma Black Belts) to high levels of proficiency in applying these techniques, much of the complexity surrounding TQM was discarded. Over recent years literature available on six sigma had become widespread. By reviewing the literature this report will assess the applications of six sigma to answer the following questions:
1) Six Sigma is only suitable for shop floor problem resolution?
2) Six Sigma linked to Modern Competitive Manufacturing Techniques is the solution to manufacturing companies problems?

"A Remote Voice Control Home Automation and Security System. It is a wireless system for remote v... more "A Remote Voice Control Home Automation and Security System. It is a wireless system for remote voice control of plants and processes from any corner in the world by vocalizing appropriate commands into his mobile phone. The system is armed with real time speaker authentication facility for enhanced security and real time speech recognition facility for decoding the vocal commands.
It is a system that can control any process (e.g. switching
ON/OFF a Light or Fan for experimental purposes) from anywhere in the world by vocalizing appropriate commands into a mobile phone. The hardware of the system comprises of a GSM handset connected to a TI TMS C6713 DSP Starter Kit via a stereo audio cable. An authorized operator at a remote location uses his GSM handset to connect to this system located at the process site. The system prompts the operator for access authentication (security feature) and once authenticated the user controls the plant operation by voicing the appropriate predefined commands (e.g. starting and stopping a motor). The DSK kit carries out real time speaker recognition for access authentication and speech verification [2-3] for decoding the vocal commands. The software of the system has been developed in ANSIC in Code Composer Studio Platform.
