To date there has been limited scholarship that addresses AA males who have LD in special education, which leaves many unanswered questions related to theory and experiential knowledge (cf. Proctor, Graves, & Esch, 2012). Lindo (2006)examined 10 years of articles published in Reading Research Quarterly (1994-2004), the Journal of Educational Psychology (1994-2004), and all volumes of the Journal of Scientific Study of Reading (1997-2007). Lindo found that no research articles reported conclusions by race, and recommended increasing the quantity of rigorous studies for AA (see Robinson, 2013, p. 161). JAAME is an appropriate journal in which to raise awareness of such an understudied topic given its goals, and scholarly and constituent foci.
