Get ready for UQ

We look forward to welcoming you to UQ. To help you prepare, here are some things to be aware of.

Receiving your UQ living stipend scholarship

If you’ve been awarded a UQ-administered living stipend scholarship, you’ll be contacted about 1 month before commencement to provide your bank account details so payments can start.

Living stipends are paid fortnightly but it can take up to 6 weeks from your commencement to receive your first payment, which will be backdated to your commencement date. Ensure you budget accordingly to cover your costs prior to receiving this payment.

Preparing to move to Queensland

Moving to a new location is an exciting experience, and there’s a lot to think about.

We’ll help you plan what you need to do before you travel, when you arrive and as you settle into your new life as a UQ student.

Cost of living

Understand what your expected expenses are likely to be once you arrive.

It’s a good idea to plan out a budget, and to prepare some savings before you arrive. We suggest having at least $3,000 saved to cover you before you start receiving your living allowance scholarship.

Tuition fees

Our student account system mySI-net will calculate your fees for each research quarter under the ‘Financials’ section.

After your scholarship is activated any outstanding balance of fees, including the Student Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF) must be paid by the fees due date.

Penalties apply for unpaid tuition fees after this time. Your enrolment in a research quarter is not confirmed until all fees are paid.

Support while you study

During your time with us, you'll have access to a range of health, social and wellbeing support.
