In this present study the bacteria are isolated from the gut of short horned grasshoppers and screened for antagonistic activity. To test for antagonistic effect the gut isolated bacteria were tested against four human pathogenic bacteria Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Klebsiella pneumonia, Escherichia coli, Vibrio parahameolyticus and one yeast like fungus Candida albicans. It was observed that gut associated Pseudomonas sp had antagonistic activity against yeast like fungus Candida albicans and Escherichia coli. The most potent strain was subjected for 16srRNA gene sequencing in order to identify the antagonistic bacteria. Phylogenetic tree has been constructed and our strain matches with Pseudomonas otitidis (99.1%). Pseudomonas otitidis has found to possess antimicrobial activity and the active compounds isolated can be utilized as antibiotics.

The bacterial strain WP3, was isolated from the coral Junceella juncea from Tuticorin coast, Gulf of Mannar region, south east coast of India. Insecticidal activity of pure compounds was assayed by bench top assay method. Different solvent extracts (hexane, acetone and methanol) of the culture broth (WP3) was done and its activity was noted. Methanol extract showed minimum LC50 when compared to acetone and hexane extracts. High performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) trace confirmed the presence of active compounds. Mass spectrophotometry (MALDI-TOF) analysis has shown that the mass of the molecules ranged from 1225 Da to 1927 Da. 16S rRNA sequencing and phylogenetic identification was done and the stain was identified to fell under the genera Bacillus. The result shows that the marine bacteria isolated from Junceella juncea corals are a potential source of novel bioactive agents and other natural products that may be utilized as pesticides.

The strains were tested for antibiotic production against selected five human pathogens. Initial screening using agar overlay method shows that a strain coded, WP3 was found to exhibit broad spectral activity inhibiting the growth of three bacteria. Based on 16s rRNA sequencing and phylogenetic identification, the stain WP3 was identified to fall under the genera Bacillus. The ethanol precipitated of the culture broth WP3 was used to obtain the crude extract of the culture strain and its activity was noted. MALDI-TOF analysis has shown that the mass of the molecules ranged from 1148Da to 1729Da. HPLC trace shows the presence of active molecules. These compounds can be isolated and characterized to be used as antibiotics in the future.

Agriculture is considered as the oldest area which is highly essential for life of earth. Agriculture plays a crucial role in the life of an economy. The importance of agriculture in a country is to provide a Source of Livelihood, Contribution to National Income, Supply of Food and Fodder, Importance in International Trade, Marketable Surplus, Source of Raw Material, Importance in Transport, Contribution to Foreign Exchange Resources, Vast Employment Opportunities, Overall Economic Development, Source of Saving, Source of Government Income and the Basis of Economic Development. As the population growth increases the land area for agriculture is reduced. To obtain the best yield from less space technology is combined with agriculture. Various education institutions for agricultural studies are developing (Mark Brock -Innovative Farmer of the Year 2012). The recent technology which finds a great leap in all the fields is ‘nanotechnology’. This leads to the combination of the art of nano with agriculture.

These bacteria contribute to the health, growth and development of plants. In this study, 45 strains were isolated from Phyllanthus niruri plant leaves. Phyllanthus niruri is a medicinal plant used popularly to cure jaundice. Endophytic bacteria isolated were tested against human pathogens and the active strain was identified. Ethyl acetate extract of the strain 13 shows activity against Candida albicans, Klebsiella pneumoniae and Escherichia coli. High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) and Matrix Assisted Laser Desorption Ionization – Time of Flight (MALDI-TOF) analysis were done. The data shows the presence of active compounds. Thus, the endophytic bacteria may yield a vast array of new compounds with novel activities that will provide new drugs in the fight against a number of pathogens currently resistant to conventional antibiotic therapies.
