The challenges are identified from the experience of digitizing and cataloguing those PLMs manually. There is a need to organize these collections with proper metadata format and extracting them automatically. Some elements in metadata are calculated using digital image processing algorithms which help in automatic extraction of metadata. However major challenges are addressed where active research work is going on to give an enhanced solution.

It presents a method for speech recognition using grammars instead of using statistical and acoustic models. The main issue is the prediction of successive words continuously according to our speech. This customized grammar can quickly and correctly detect the speech and translate it into text. The performance of word obtained is calculated through word error rate. By utilising this grammar based approach, the word is recognized accurately at 73%.

As the time passes by, these palm leaves are getting spoiled by artificial and natural elements. With the growing technology worldwide, we are aimed to digitize all these palm leaf manuscripts which are available in our university library. One such objective is to develop an efficient image processing system for effective retrieval of metadata automatically from these manuscripts. Many image processing techniques have been proposed for the efficient data retrieval. Some of the techniques include image enhancement, segmentation, processing, restoration, compression and acquisition. All these techniques have various algorithms which are implemented successfully with desired results. Since one hundred percent correct recognition rate is impossible with noise and other distorted mediums determining the right technique for image processing is very difficult. So, this paper contains information about some image processing techniques and algorithms applied on palm leaf manuscripts proposed by different authors for successful data retrieval.

Digitization is an essential process to preserve this knowledge and provide access to users. Due to their unique nature, palm-leaf manuscripts pose some specific challenges. This paper highlights such challenges identified during the course of implementation at SCSVMV University Palm Leaf Library and provides suggestions for possible solutions to these challenges.

This paper copes with identity of kannada text. Eliminating noise and extracting the textual content from the scanned or captured picture is first step. Segmenting the lines and characters is the second step which is essential. Noise removal and extracting the textual content can be done by way of the usage of any noise filter and foreground subtraction algorithm. Otsu set of rules facilitates to gain the task of foreground extraction. Horizontal and Vertical Profiling is a method of extracting lines and words from the image document. Extracting the knowledge from the dataset the use of Hu's Seven variations and Zernike Moments features helps to come over many problem. After training method knowledge is being generated through the usage of the above mentioned methods. KNN classifier is used to understand the unknown characters through the quest approach through calculating the capabilities.

The resources specified here gives us a head start in understanding various metadata standards. They are used for several purposes in efficient data retrieval from database. However major standards are addressed where more research work is needed to retrieve data efficiently.
