His analysis leads today's lawyers to a surprising conclusion: narration is not typical to ancient linguistic treaties but to today's legal codifications. Unlike the lengthy and casuistic arguments of ancient and medieval jurists, Isidore's entries are concise, general and abstract. Transposing today's templates of legislative techniques onto Etymologiae, Isidore of Seville may be considered one of the precursors of modern codifiers of law. He himself, despite the effect achieved, did not think of himself in such categories.

His achievements in law (in particular Roman law and the law on ownership) have already been acknowledged in the research literature. There are also many publications about his life and work as a Professor of Roman law at the University of Lwów. No proper research, however, has been done into Piniński’s contribution to Shakespeare’s studies. The paper attempts to fill this gap by discussing Leon Piniński’s legacy as a translator and commentator on William Shakespeare. The analysis focuses on a two-volume work entitled William Shakespeare. Wrażenia i szkice z twórczości poety (Lwów, 1924). In this seminal contribution, Piniński examines all of Bard’s plays in terms of sources, synopsis, themes and intertextuality. Leon Piniński also translated Shakespeare’s works and criticised the translations by such prominent authors as Leon Ulrich and Józef Paszkowski. Many of his ideas and translation choices were innovative compared to other Polish versions of Shakespeare’s plays and are still relevant today.

On the other hand, to prosecute the murderer of a relative was considered a sacred duty for the members of the victim's family. Any negligence in this area was perceived as wicked behaviour and detrimental to the memory of the deceased. The obligation to bring a criminal charge, symbolically identified with vengeance (ultio, vindicta), rested with men. The surviving funeral eulogy known as the Laudatio Turiae shows a very different pattern. Its content shows that at the end of the first century BC, it was a woman who accused the murderers of her parents in court and brought about their conviction. The oration makes it possible to initiate an interesting discussion on the real importance of women's voice in the criminal process and on the social stereotypes that limited their participation in public procedures.

two monographs on the Roman civil procedure were published in Polish. An analysis of the script shows that its author drew mostly on Leopold Wenger’s monograph „Institutionen des römischen Zivilprozessrechts”. It is from him that he took the idea of devoting a separate discussion to the differences between Roman civil trials and their criminal and administrative proceedings. The text included a subsection entitled “The Relationship between the Roman Civil Trial and Criminal and Administrative proceedings”. The author presented the peculiarities of all three types of proceedings in a factual manner, emphasizing that certain contemporary categories had already been contemplated by the Romans. Particularly noteworthy is the departure from the concept of dividing law into public and private based on the so-called criterion of benefit (utilitas). Rev. Płodzień emphasizes that the concept of state interest in Roman times was as vague as it is today. The narrative makes subtle use of modern civilist terminology.
Ages is the scene showing the meeting between the Emperor Trajan and a poor widow. The Emperor, addressed by poor woman whose son has been unjustly slaughtered, decides to postpone his campaign and hear her case without delay. This story was popularised in various versions by medieval legends and caused a symbolic “redemption” of the pagan emperor. Consequently, the character of Trajan could serve as a personification of a fair judge. The pagan Trajan gained his place in both sacral and
secular art and was represented near such powerful figures as Christ or king Solomon.
