As the leader of the Insectron forces, Bigmos (ビッグモス Biggumosu) became sick of the ceaseless wars plaguing Cybertron and encouraged his comrades to find peace by wandering the universe. Starscream's data disc told Bigmos and the Insectrons all about the horrible deeds of Lio Convoy and his warriors. Tonbot and Bigmos attacked Bighorn and Apache next time they saw them. The Maximals tried to avoid fighting back, but when Bighorn detonated a missile against a rocky column as a show of force, it only made the Insectrons more fearful of the Maximals. When Lio Convoy and Tasmania Kid arrived, the battle briefly stopped as the sides began talking to one another. The hidden Starscream and BB couldn't allow that, so they fired missiles at the gathering. Lio Convoy warned the Insectrons of the incoming missiles, and he and the Maximals shielded Tonbot and Bigmos from injury with their own bodies. Unsure what to think of the Maximals in the aftermath, Bigmos ended the fight and he and Tonbot left. The Insect Corps Arrive

Starscream's next plot lured the Insectrons to Mikazuki Island with the promise of an oil party. Bigmos arrived with Powerhug, Tonbot, and Drill Nuts, and a recording from the Predacon told them to start without him. The super-refined oil quickly put the Insectrons into a drunken state, starting a brawl between them. The Maximals and remaining Insectrons arrived to stop the squabbling, and the two groups joined forces against an equally plastered Galvatron, who had inadvertently gotten into the same stash of spiked oil. In the aftermath, the Maximals and Insectrons made peace. Bigmos accepted the Maximals as friends, but told them that all the Insectrons wanted was peace. They would protect their land, but would not join the Maximals full-time against the Predacons. The Strongest Tag Team?

Learning of the Insectrons, Autostinger hunted Bigmos down and informed him that he was calling in the favor he owed him. Although Bigmos would not fight with the Autorollers against the Maximals, he agreed that he would not interfere with their war and abandoned Lio Convoy during a particularly brutal onslaught from the Autorollers. However, when the tables turned, Autostinger found himself about to be blasted to bits by Lio Convoy's missile attack. Bigmos swooped in and saved Autostinger from certain death, thus cancelling the debt. Autostinger was not satisfied, however, and the two foes agreed to a duel in a cave. The enemies worked together to escape and then agreed to go their separate ways. Autorollers Roll Out!

In this mode, a push-switch on his back makes his insect wings slide back and forth. His insect-mode proboscis is actually a spring-loaded missile that fires from his mouth in robot mode. This gimmick does not work in beast mode... well, not well, since the missile just shudders slightly backwards into his skull.

: This figure unfortunately suffers from some form of Gold Plastic Syndrome. The figure's turqoise colored plastic is very brittle and unfortunately even buying one sealed can't even save this one from slight knocks to the packaging. Notable breakage points include; the mosquito leg connectors snapping right off, tight hip/thigh swivels resulting in crumbling, and occassionally the robot feet can break from being really thin pieces. Basically if anything is molded in that plastic be very gentle.

Bigmos is a Maximal-allied Insectron from the Beast Era of the Generation 1 continuity family.

As the leader of the Insectron forces, Bigmos (ビッグモス Biggumosu) became sick of the ceaseless wars plaguing Cybertron and encouraged his comrades to find peace by wandering the universe. True to his philosophy of pacifism, Bigmos prefers to fight with non-lethal methods. He'll deliver warning shots to scare enemies away or simply punish them without killing them. A solemn creature of honor, Bigmos's code of ethics tends to be his greatest weakness. He'll gladly spare an enemy's life with no expectation of recompense, but should an enemy grant him mercy then he's honor-bound to owe them a debt that can be collected at anytime and in any way. The Autoroller named Autostinger knows this, and having spared Bigmos's life long ago, has kept the Insectron dangling like a bug on a hook ever since.

Bigmos was once a mercenary who fought for the Maximals. During one campaign on the planet Dross, however, he was cornered by Autostinger, a Predacon mercenary. Autostinger spared his life, though assured him that one day he would call in a favor. Following that encounter, Bigmos collected several of his other war-weary friends, dubbed the Insectrons, and they became wanderers in search of peace. Their travels eventually brought them to the planet Gaia. Autorollers Roll Out!

Fiercely territorial, they defended their lands in the South Continent when the Maximals and Predacons arrived. Bigmos and Tonbot drove off Dirge, Thrust, and the Autorollers when they tried to build a fortress in Insectron territory. Starscream of the Predacons enacted a long-term scheme to manipulate the Insectrons into believing the Maximals were their true foes. He set up a bug-trap that snared Tonbot and Bigmos, then freed them and claimed the trap was set by Lio Convoy and his crew.

The duel was evenly matched until the Combatrons attempted to cause a cave-in, burying their foes. The enemies worked together to escape and then agreed to go their separate ways. Autorollers Roll Out!

Megastorm soon organized a mass offensive by the Predacons, prompting the Maximals and Insectrons to fight together again. Predacon General Offensive!

Through the machinations of Moon, the Jolly Roger from the Seacons' photon sailer (with a stain shaped like the Sea Continent) flew into Bigmos and Tonbot's direction. Bigmos served as a stabilizing influence on the Committee for State Affairs, despite both balking authority and having a tendency to ignore orders. He was also a Triple Changer. Beast Wars Sourcebook #1

[edit] Beast Wars: Uprising

AloneTogetherPerception Trans-MutatePod.jpg

Bigmos was among the Maximals loyal to the tyrannical Builder government who controlled Cybertron long after the Great War had ended. During his military career he had only suffered one defeat, at the hands of the Predacon Autostinger. After being spared, he felt he not only owed a debt to his opponent, but to the universe at large.

Bigmos was a strict follower of authorial procedures, and saw himself fit to deal out whatever punishment he deemed necessary to correct a lack of respect among those under him. He was tasked with tracking down a rebel group headed by Rattrap, a mission he took on gladly after his one-time comrade had abandoned his post and gone on to insult his former superiors. Aiding him in this endeavor were his Insectrons, though he had trouble keeping the rambunctious group in line. Bigmos's profile in Club Magazine #57

Bigmos managed to capture Trans-Mutate and handed her to the Maximal authorities for trial. With Windrazor's help, he later placed Trans-Mutate into a stasis pod for transport to the Garrus-16 penal colony. Perception

During the Grand Uprising, Bigmos chose to rebel against his creators and soon became a squad commander in the National Maximal Army. His division took part in the siege on Plurex. Derailment

[edit] 2005 IDW continuity

Bigmos was one of Onyx Prime's Maximals. When this bestial horde invaded Cybertron, he was one of the many warriors who wound up battling Arcee and held her in chains with Skywarp when the Liege Maximo had her captured. This proved to be fatal for the duo as Arcee pulled them in and tore them apart. Unforgivable

The mosquito leg connection snapped off while it was still inside the box (it was superglued back on).
 • Bigmos (ビッグモス, 1998)
Part of the fifth wave of Beast Wars II products in the Japanese Beast Wars toyline, Bigmos is a redeco of the Beast Wars Mega Class Predacon Transquito, transforming into an organic mosquito. In this mode, a push-switch on his back makes his insect wings slide back and forth.
In robot mode, his insect mode proboscis becomes his spring-loaded "Needle Missile" that fires from his mouth. This is the only time the missile can be used effectively, as the back end of it is what is used as the proboscis in beast mode.
Bigmos has a third "Hell Scissor" mode, which ressembles an antlion to a certain degree. Its oversized mandibles are formed by unfolding his wings—to which he "flapping" gimmick from mosquito mode makes the mandibles close down on his victims. Additionally, Bigmos's mosquito head has two small red triggers that auto-transforms his robot head, making his proboscis into a stinger for this mode.
This figure unfortunately suffers from a form of Gold Plastic Syndrome (see second image); the turquoise colored plastic is very brittle, and some figures can be broken upon opening them for the first time. Notable breakage points include the mosquito leg connectors snapping right off, tight hip/thigh swivels resulting in crumbling, and occasionally the robot feet can break from being really thin pieces. Basically, if anything is molded in that plastic, be very gentle.

 • Hikyō no Taiketsu: Bigmos VS Autostinger (秘境の対決 ビッグモスVSオートスティンガー, 1998)
 • ID number: VS-17
 • Release date: May 25, 1998

Bigmos was also available in the "Frontier Showdown" two-pack with Autostinger, also released in the fifth wave of Beats Wars II toys. Both toys are identical to their individual releases.

[edit] Notes

Bigmos-BWU-profile.jpg
 • The "mos" (モス mosu) in "Bigmos" is likely derived from the English word "mosquito" since, you know, he transforms into a big mosquito. Mosu can also be Japanese transliteration for "moth", but this intention is unlikely.
 • Unlike almost all Beast Wars: Uprising characters, Bigmos does not use a physical or virtual toy design, rather having a simple vehicular adaptation of his original beast design.
