Removable orthodontic appliances, which contribute to the alignment of misaligned teeth and to the development of maxillaries, are not fixed to teeth and can be inserted/removed easily on/off the teeth of the dental arches. The aim of this study was to evaluate some characteristics of removable orthodontic appliances achieved by two different technologies (heat-curing and vacuum-forming), realised by using two dental materials (Superacryl Plus-SpofaDental thermo-cured acrylic resin and Biocryl ® C and Biocryl ® M-Scheu thermoplastic materials). The study included 123 adolescent patients, to which were manufactured one or two removable orthodontic appliances, on one or both of the dental arches. A total of 141 removable orthodontic appliances were manufactured for the selected adolescent patients. The manufacturing of all types of removable orthodontic appliances followed the same technological procedures, specific to each type of used material. The results of the study demonstrate that the aesthetic effect of the two dental materials presented different results, and the best results were observed at the orthodontic appliances achieved by the vacuum-forming technology, using Biocryl ® C and Biocryl ® M–Scheu thermoplastic materials.

The first objective of our research was represented by the manufacture of the collagenic gels, of the algae extracts and of the mixture, in reference with the physical and chemical properties (pH, viscosity, organoleptical properties), of each component in part and of the mixtures. The second objective of the research was the determination of the tolerability and of the healing properties of six products realized by the collagenic gel extract from marine fish skin (shark and turbot skin), combined with three marine algae (Cystoseira barbata, Ulva lactuca, and Ceramium rubrum), in the treatment of recurrent aphthous stomatitis. The trial was conducted on 186 patients (97 women and 89 men), affected by recurrent aphtous stomatitis lesions. The obtained results showed that the most beneficial in the healing action was obtained with the collagenic gel containing 10% Ceramium Rubrum. In conclusion, the resources offered by the Black Sea biosystem can be used, with good results, to reduce the healing time and the recurrence in patients suffering by aphtous stomatitis.

This aim of this study is to evaluate the differences, in the terms of patient's compliance, in restoration of partial edentations through three types of PDs, achieved of Meliodent-Kulzer acrylic resin, Valplast® polyamide resin, respectively of BioDentaplast-Bredent acetal resin. Investigations were carried out on 78 patients (3 groups of 26 patients), to which were performed 101 PDs (35 of Meliodent-Kulzer, 33 of polyamide Valplast ® , respectively 33 of BioDentaplast-Bredent) and after the accommodation period with the dentures, six assays of compliance have been conducted. The results of the research have demonstrated that PDs made of flexible materials were far more favourable than those made of Meliodent acrylic resin, and PDs with BioDentaplast framework presented the best impact. The ascertained differences are relevant in the treatment of partial edentation, for choice of the best option for one of these three polymeric denture base materials.

Fibres-reinforced composite resin retainers are recommended likewise in the treatment of teeth mobility. The study group was formed by a total of 62 patients, which presented first and second mobility degrees of anterior teeth (436 included teeth into research). 42 patients belonging to the experimental group with periodontal splinting, benefited by Interlig-Angelus glass-fibers and Ribbond-Seattle polyethylene-fibres reinforced composite resin splints (295 splinted teeth and 50 splints). The used composite resin was represented by Vertise™ Flow-Kerr. 20 patients (141 teeth) represented the control group, without splinting. All included patients followed periodic monitoring visits (after a week and at one month, for a period of 6 months), in order to evaluate the detaching degree/adhesive failure of reinforced composite resin splints and the reducing of dental mobility degree. The results of study revealed that between the two types of immobilization splints there was no significant difference in the degree of separation/adhesion failure, in the acceptability or in the patient's comfort. Both types of fiber-reinforced composite resin periodontal splints had beneficial effects in decreasing the degree of dental mobility and it was remarked their aesthetic acceptability, respectively the patient's comfort.

Recently, a new high performance polymer, BioHPP, based on polyether-ether-ketone (PEEK) polymer was introduced as dental material for manufacturing the superstructure dentures on dental implants. The purpose of this article is to present the results of the clinical trials referring to the advantages of BioHPP polymer as superstructure in oral implantology. The research has been carried out on 35 patients. The recordings of the advantages in the using this polymer for superstructure on dental implants, in accordance with six evaluation criteria, were performed in three dental schools from Romania, monthly, during one year. The results of survey demonstrate that BioHPP polymer as superstructure on dental implants present many advantages, therefore this PEEK type of dental material represents a beneficial new acquisition for patients' oral health.

The sensitive teeth were treated with Gluma Desensitizer-Heraeus Kulzer (first batch of teeth), Shield activ desensitiser (second batch) and distilled water (third batch of teeth=control group). We effectuated in total three desensitisation sessions, at 5 days difference. The level of cervical dentinal hypersensitivity (CDH) was determined in six sessions, after the patient's response to air-blast stimuli. We used the Visual Analog Scale (VAS) to assess the CDH. The results proved the effectiveness of used desensitizing agents in treating CDH in the first and the second batch of teeth, in comparison with the control group teeth. We noticed that after the second application of Gluma and Shield products significant differences, in comparison with the baseline, appeared. After 3 month follow-up, we ascertained that both products induced the decreasing of CDH. No significant differences were recorded between the two products. A placebo effect in reduction of CDH was observed in the group of teeth treated with distilled water. Both dentin desensitizing agents have proven effective in reducing CDH.

For the last few decades, numerous approaches have been made to enhance the hardness of ceramics used in fixed prosthetic restorations. The aim of the research was to study, in vitro, the effectiveness to fracture tests of the aesthetic fixed restorations realized from zirconia and alumina. The experiment was conducted in a physics laboratory at the Polytechnic Institute of Bucharest for a 2 years period. For testing we used a total of 60 crowns manufactured as follows: 30 identical zirconia crowns, 30 identical alumina crowns, and for plating we used compatible ceramics. Each batch of 30 crowns was then divided in 3 groups of 10 crowns. Subsequently the crowns were cemented on resin models using zinc phosphate cement. After the setting of cement, the crowns were stored in distilled water at a temperature of 37°C. After two years, the first group of crowns was not subject to any treatment, the second group was ...

Chronic exposure of human body to tobacco smoke environment induces oxidative stress in cells as a consequence of oxidative reactions by increasing the production of oxygen-free radicals. The aim of this study is to evaluate the influence of passive smoking on antioxidant status in adults. in accordance with their physiological role, erythrocytes are continuously exposed to oxidative stress. Analysis of oxidative susceptibility in the exposed erythrocytes to tobacco smoke was assessed by measurement of erythrocytic superoxide dismutase (sod) and glutathione-peroxidase, in 50 adult passive smokers, compared with non-smokers. in case of chronic exposures (more than 15 years) in environment with tobacco smoke, the results of erythrocytic superoxide dismutase indicates an adaptive response of the organism to the oxidative stress, which is considered to be antioxidant-defense response, induced by altering the gene expression of SOD from the stem cells. Significantly increasing of erythrocyte sod is associated with lower-level glutathione peroxidase activity in passive smokers compared to non-smokers. our research results reveal the fact that chronic exposure to tobacco smoke environment generates biochemical imbalance in erythrocytic antioxidant defense, providing a protective adaptive mechanism at cellular and sub-cellular levels. Analysis of oxidative susceptibility in the exposed erythrocytes to tobacco smoke was assessed by measurement of erythrocytic superoxide dismutase (sod) and glu-tathione-peroxidase, in 50 adult passive smokers, compared with non-smokers. mature erythrocytes are devoid of multiple metabolic options, which are directly related to the absence of nucleus, mitochondrial and any other intracellular organites. The erytrocytes can not synthesise proteins and enzymes and each of its structural proteins distorts under its own metabolism. under their physiological

The clinical and laboratory procedures associated with these CAD/CAM systems differ, and practitioners must understand and follow the indications in producing these types of restorations. Presented here are the results of SEM examination in a partial fissured aesthetic dental bridge. We performed SEM examination of a dental bridge, realised from ceramic layers deposited on zirconia substrate, to detect their structural defects and to find out the causes of these defects.
