The authors discuss the main characteristics of women as farm operators using national sample studies conducted in 1994, 1999 and 2007. After an analysis of literature and various research results some hypotheses were formulated, i.e.: the better education of rural women than rural men, women as “unnatural” or “forced” farm operators due to various household circumstances, the “weaker” economic status of farms operated by women. Basic results of the studies carried out in 1994, 1999 and 2007 confirm the hypothesis about the weaker economic position of female operated farms. Moreover, women farm operators were slightly older and far better educated than their male counterparts. On the contrary, the males were more active off the farms in the public sphere. In addition, the circumstances of becoming farm operators did not differ significantly between males and females. Finally, there were no significant differences between “male” and “female” styles of farming.

The article attempts to reinterpret the Galician uprising of 1846. The main
thesis assumes that it was a violent culmination of a social conflict, which resulted in a genocidal event. The first section of this paper strives to explain this complex situation by presenting long-term economic, political, paramilitary and ideological processes. In the second part, the violent and organizational nature of the riots is explained using typologies and concepts taken from the microsociological theory of collective violence. The summary contains conclusions and a discussion concerning alternative paths of building national and civic identity.

The text presents the assumptions of the Polish overseas colony project published
in 1864. This document appeared in the face of the social crisis caused by the defeat
of the January Uprising and the empowerment of the peasants in the Kingdom of
Poland. The idea of the planned resettlement of Polish political emigration contains
a mixture of its traditional, pre-modern forms and some democratic and ideas of
Ultramontanism. A detailed and contextual analysis of this historical evidence
leads to valid conclusions on the shaping of a specific pre-modern form of Polish
nationalism: exclusive and uniform in confession and politics.

The article undertakes a closer look at Franciszek Bujak social and political views based on his works published during his direct political involvement from 1918 to 1920. In the heated debate on agrarian reform, Bujak articulated a neoconservative perspective on essential social issues i.e. land distribution, small landowners class, and rural women's property rights.

The text focuses the attention on one of the
less popular French philosophers - Lucien
Lévy-Bruhl. It elaborates his unique project
of social sciences as practical ethics presented
in „La Morale et la sciences des moeurs”
in 1903. In this book, he argues that the
social scholar’s roles are as secular guardians
and exponents of moral changes. This
scientism and positivistic ideology have
been used to reinforce newly conceived
Durkheimian sociology and were closely related
to the educational policy of the French Third Republic.

This text critiques a classic sociological text, The Polish Peasant in Europe and America. The value of the work, which consists in the successful combination of elements from several intellectual traditions, is presented in connection with the biographical and historical background of one of the authors, Florian Znaniecki. In conclusion, the author makes a number of remarks concerning the special situation of migrants in global intellectual networks.
The article concerns Florian’s Znaniecki creativeness as a sociological issue. It treats biography and early works of the polish sociologist as an example of autodidactic and self-consciousness success. I mention three consecutive stages... more
The article concerns Florian’s Znaniecki creativeness as a sociological issue. It treats biography and early works of the polish sociologist as an example of autodidactic and self-consciousness success. I mention three consecutive stages of development of creative process: Znaniecki’s poetry, his unconditional decision of unparalleled devotion into pure intellectual work and the organization of socio-intellectual life of his interaction circles in Warsaw in 1910-14.
